Job Summary
The Associate Project Manager is responsible for supporting the review and oversight of capital construction projects throughout all phases of the project lifecycle, from pre-design through closeout. This role ensures compliance with applicable New York State Fire and Building Codes, the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and other regulatory standards. The position involves reviewing project drawings and documentation, participating in design review meetings, and conducting site inspections to verify adherence to safety, accessibility, and contract requirements. The Associate Project Manager works under supervision while contributing to the successful delivery of safe, compliant, and accessible transit facilities and infrastructure projects. Job Responsibilities
- Review capital project documentation across all phases of the project lifecycle, including pre-design, design, construction, and closeout, for compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Evaluate project drawings, specifications, and narratives to ensure alignment with Fire Codes, Building Codes, ADA requirements, and contract documents.
- Provide written comments and recommendations based on technical review of project materials.
- Participate in design review meetings to ensure accessibility and ADA compliance is integrated into project planning and execution.
- Conduct field inspections during construction, rehabilitation, or maintenance activities to verify compliance with Fire, Building, ADA, and contractual requirements.
- Support acceptance inspections and assessments of completed work at transit stations and facilities.
- Identify and document non-compliance issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with project teams, consultants, and contractors to support resolution of design and construction issues.
- Maintain organized records of reviews, inspections, findings, and project documentation.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, project management, business administration, or public administration with 2 years of experience; or
- High school diploma or equivalent with 6 years of experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: code enforcement, accessible design, fire department operations plan review, energy conservation, or site inspections in a supervisory capacity.
- OSHA 30-hour certification required prior to performing work in or near wayside areas.
- Demonstrated knowledge of building materials and construction practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Successful completion of required track safety training for applicable transit systems.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, codes, and regulatory documents.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to work in field environments, including active construction sites.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred; or
- High school diploma or equivalent with extensive relevant experience.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in code enforcement, accessibility compliance, plan review, energy conservation, or site inspections in a supervisory capacity (or 6 years total experience depending on education level).
