Description

Assist in daily printing operations of the print shop and the college. Coordinate and complete print jobs on various print technology equipment for all college departments as needed. Update and maintain print shop ordering website. Finish Print Jobs using a variety of finishing equipment such as Folders/Inserters/Addresser/Cutters. Pre-flight print jobs using appropriate software and hardware.


Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Assume overall responsibility of the print shop in the absence of the supervisor.
  2. Coordinate daily scheduling and complete printing jobs using digital printing equipment and the appropriate finishing equipment.
  3. Use software to track the progress of print jobs and do billing of printed materials.
  4. Update and maintain print shop website.
  5. Assist in billing and maintaining campus copiers and printers.
  6. Facilitate in the completion of printing jobs using press equipment and the appropriate finishing equipment.
  7. Evaluate and upgrade current and future printing jobs using printing technology equipment
  8. Assist in inventory control and ordering of supplies to reduce costs and increase revenues
  9. Assist the supervisor in planning for and equipping expanded services. Assist in short range and long range planning.
  10. Assist in budget preparation.
  11. Care and maintain all equipment in print shop and mailroom
  12. Assist in evaluation and analysis of maintenance contracts.
  13. Research create and implement new products to the campus and external community
  14. Manage a demanding work load with multiple projects and strict deadlines in a fast-paced high turnabout environment
  15. Pre-flight and adjust files for optimal and accurate production
  16. Other related duties as assigned.

Specific Functional Job Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma, some college preferred, background in printing.

Experience Requirements:
  • Combination of relevant education and training with 2 to 5 years experience in printing.

Knowledge:
  • Accepted printing practices with working knowledge of digital printing/wide format capabilities, various computer programs and design programs used in the creation of print materials, Microsoft software products, and a working knowledge of the graphic arts field.
Software: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop working knowledge required.

Skills:
  • Manual dexterity, ability to use complex machinery, ability to trouble shoot technical equipment. The ability to utilize various graphics software products.

Personal Requirements:
  • Ability to work with all levels of administration, faculty, staff and students.
Physical: Ability to perform position demands and responsibilities (some physical labor involved).
