Arts, Languages, & Philosophy Job Description
The Department of Arts, Languages, & Philosophy at Missouri University of Science and Technology invites applications for a full time, non-tenure-track position in Philosophy at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor, to begin in the fall 2026. This is a 9-month, full-time, non-tenure track position, renewable yearly based on enrollments and strong performance reviews, and may be eligible for promotion after meeting certain conditions. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate-level Philosophy and Ethics courses, contribute to strengthening our department's Philosophy program, and fully engage in the life of our diverse, multidisciplinary department. Applicants must have a PhD in Philosophy or related field, in hand by the starting date of appointment. They should also have evidence of successful independent college-level teaching and experience with instructional technology. Experience in curriculum development and evidence of excellence in teaching in various modalities is preferred. It is expected that the successful candidate will achieve a sustained level of recognition by students and peers as an effective educator, as well as develop effective learning materials and implement impactful multimodal teaching methods. Applicants with interest and experience in pedagogy/curriculum development are encouraged to apply. The typical teaching load will be four three-credit courses per semester, usually taught in person, though some courses are taught online, depending on faculty qualifications and departmental needs. Position also entails coordinating with the rest of the Philosophy program, which include engaging in materials and courses offering development, collaborating with other faculty on program development, and generating interest in Philosophy and Ethics. This position requires engagement with relevant service activities, e.g., undergraduate advising, promoting the program among current and prospective students to help build and sustain enrollments, representing the program at appropriate venues, and committee service.
