The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

A lead sleep technologist works under the general supervision of the Medical Director and the Administrative Director of Pulmonary & Sleep services to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and home sleep apnea testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. A lead sleep technologist is credentialed in sleep technology and will provide oversight of all sleep center technologist staff.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Proof of current polysomnographic technologist license in New Jersey OR other license including Polysomnography in the scope of practice (RPSGT and/or RRT).

  • Maintain current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) for the Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association OR Professional Rescuer from the American Red Cross (Other CPR or BCLS courses are NOT acceptable).

Certifications:

  • Be registered by the ABSM, BRPT, or NBRC (Certification by the ABSM, BRPT, or NBRC does NOT satisfy this qualification.)
  • Qualification to obtain, or possession of the CCSH (Certification in Clinical Sleep Health) preferred.

  • Nights

Essential Functions:

  • Collect, analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history).
  • Determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.
  • Follow all procedural protocols [such as Polysomnogram (PSG), Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration, etc.] to ensure collection of appropriate data.
  • Select appropriate equipment and calibrate for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments, if necessary.
  • Perform data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identify, correct and document artifact.
  • Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
  • Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.).
  • Follow "lights on" procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (e.g. repeat the physiological and instrument calibrations and instruct the patient on completing questionnaires, checking for completeness, etc.).
  • Assist Administrative Director with all aspects of day-to-day operations to ensure optimal sleep center function.
  • Serves as an expert resource providing advanced practice, theories and techniques to maximize patient service and outcomes.
  • Responsible for participation in the quality assurance program, improvement of initiatives and developing patient and staff education programs.
