The US base salary range for this full-time position is provided below:

Salary Range: $225,000 - $300,000

The range represents the amountbnsf | techreasonably expects to pay for the position based on the level, scope, and responsibilities of the role. Individual compensation and level of position offered is determined by the hiring location and additional factors including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.In addition to base pay and bonus eligibility, BNSF offers a comprehensivebenefitspackage.

This is a full-time remote
position. Employees may work from anywhere within the contiguous 48 states of the United States

Travel is up to 20%. Employees will be required to occasionally travel to our corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, TX for in person meetings. Travel expenses for business needs will be covered by BNSF

This position is open to candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States. We are also open to sponsoring H-1B transfers, TN nonimmigrant status, and STEM OPT candidates with at least 2 years of remaining eligibility.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a strategic and technically adept Staff Manager of Software Engineering to lead the development and evolution of our AI-first digital employee experience. This role will oversee a team of engineers and collaborate cross-functionally with HR, Communications, IT, and other business units to deliver a modern, secure, and user-centric intranet experience.

Key responsibilities may include:

Leadthe design, development, and deployment of scalable intranet solutions using modern web technologies and frameworks.

Manageandmentora team of software engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Partnerwith internal stakeholders to gather requirements, prioritize features, and ensure alignment with business goals.

Drivethearchitecturaldecisions andensurebest practices in software development, security, and performance.

Overseethevendorrelationships and integration of third-party tools (e.g., SharePoint, Microsoft Viva, ServiceNow).

Mentortheplatform usage, performance metrics, and user feedback to guide iterative improvements.

Ensurecompliancewith data privacy, accessibility, and corporate IT standards.

Basic Qualifications

  • Authorized to work in the US.

  • Minimum of 9+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

  • Proven experience in developing and managing enterprise intranet platforms.

  • Strong knowledge of web development technologies (e.g., React, Angular, Node.js, .NET, REST APIs).

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and DevOps practices.

  • Demonstrated product mindset with a focus on delivering user-centric solutions that drive business value.

  • Experience applying AI technologies such as machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), or intelligent automation to enhance digital platforms.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF's assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with leading intranet or employee experience platforms such as Simpplr, Unily, LumApps, or Microsoft Viva.

  • Strong background in content management systems (CMS) and enterprise content strategy.

  • Experience with AI-powered personalization, search optimization, and recommendation engines to enhance employee experience.

  • Familiarity with natural language processing (NLP), chatbots, and AI-driven content tagging or summarization.

  • Proficiency in analytics tools and techniques to measure intranet engagement, content performance, and user behavior.

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 ecosystem (SharePoint Online, Teams).

  • Knowledge of employee engagement and digital workplace trends.

  • Agile/Scrum certification or experience leading agile teams.

  • Experience working in large, matrixed organizations.
