Summary: The Director of Operations is responsible for the tactical and strategic leadership across general manufacturing including repair and refurbishment, safety, quality, operational excellence (OPEX), inventory management and facility management. Key performance indicators (KPI's) include total recordable rate (TRR), product failure rate, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), time efficiency utilization (TUE), cost center result, on-time delivery (OTD), delivery reliability (DR), work in progress (WIP) and OPEX hard savings. The Director of Operations is a member of the executive leadership team and translates strategy into execution to drive sustainable business growth and meet our long term objectives. Responsibilities:
- Champion safety in everything we do.
- Oversee daily operations and ensure all employees are focused and measured on fulfilling our KPI's, strategy, goals and commitments with a special emphasis on safety, quality, continuous improvement and financial performance.
- Engages site employees to ensure everyone understands the business objectives, the status of the objectives and how individual performance impacts the objectives.
- Lead and mentor operational teams to collectively lift team and personal performance.
- Promotes a work culture which is aligned with Voith values including ownership (100% responsibility), teamwork, respect and customer centricity. Transform the operation into a proactive operation committed to continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with People & Culture policies and promote an engaging work environment
- Develop and manage operational budgets, cost controls, and capital expenditure plans.
- Identify cost-reduction opportunities while protecting safety, quality, and service levels.
- Works with other stakeholders including sales and project management regularly to fully understand the customer's needs (quality, delivery, etc..) to consistently achieve desired results.
- Drive long-term operational strategy, including capacity planning, technology enablement, and optimization.
- Lead major transformation initiatives, including automation, digitalization, and process redesign.
- Evaluate and implement best-in-class operational practices to support growth and competitiveness.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in operations management, preferably in a leadership role.
- Bachelor's degree with technical or business major required.
- Must be well versed in operational excellence, lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong coaching, developing, mentoring and leadership skills required. Ability to align a team on common goals and deliver results.
- Strategic mindset and the ability to develop differentiated strategic plans and approaches. Ability to execute strategic plans and deliver strong financial results.
- Must have experience in problem solving and project management.
- Must have customer centricity orientation and strong communication skills
- Must have a strong attention to detail Proficient in MRP/ERP systems and data analytics programs, including SAP and Power BI. Capable of running queries to extract data and compile information for data-driven business decisions.
Physical Demands:
- A Director of Operations is required to work in an industrial setting (noise level is moderate). The employee will need to stand, walk and sit frequently throughout the day. The employee will also occasionally be required to reach with hands and arms, lift, stop or crouch.
- Must be able to work full time on-site at our Appleton, WI facility.
- The job requires occasional domestic and international travel.
