Position Overview

Riverside Research's Spectrum Warfare Innovation (SWI) group is seeking a dynamic full-time summer intern in Fairfax, VA. As a key member of our SWI team, the intern will contribute to our radio frequency (RF) and electronic warfare (EW) lab operations and support cutting edge research that builds advanced radio capabilities for military customers.

This position is for the summer of 2026 in our Fairfax, VA office.



Responsibilities

    Assist in building dynamic new RF test and evaluation systems, including integration of lab equipment, software-defined radios, and application software
  • Work closely with embedded systems, 3D printers, software-defined radios, unmanned aerial systems (UAS)/drones, and RF test equipment to enhance the operation of the lab to support our research team
  • Work with the research team to identify better ways to automate and document lab configurations and use of equipment, develop custom applications, and enable smooth configuration and setup of new lab equipment
  • Work with the research team to support off-site drone integration and field testing events
  • Build tools and/or capabilities in languages like C/C++, Python, etc
  • Participate in relevant internal meetings


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Rising junior or senior undergraduate student studying electrical engineering (preferred), or similar field of study
  • Experience with Linux development environments
  • Self-driven with strong analytic, inferencing, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and be able to work overhead

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with hardware or embedded projects
  • Experience with RF systems and RF test equipment
  • Experience in programming languages, e.g. C/C++ and/or Python
  • Current UAS Part 107 certification, or desire to acquire
  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) and 3D printing
  • Desire to learn technical skills alongside how the business operates
  • Ability to establish a solid working relationship with technical staff and peers in the group and across Riverside Research.


Global Comp

$20.00 hr - $35.00 This represents the typical compensation range for this position based on experience, location and other factors.
