ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



  • Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures, use of equipment and Hospital and departmental policies necessary for job performance.


  • Accounts for work daily using the P.O.M. computerized system. Maintain and repair heating, cooling, and refrigeration equipment, as well as, perform preventive maintenance as scheduled in such a manner as to keep equipment failure to a minimum.


  • Work from blueprints, design specifications, and manufacture instruction to install compressors, motors, condensers, thermostats, fans, ducts, pipes, and other mechanical, electrical, and electronic components into place.


  • Perform varied and complex tasks known as "troubleshooting", which requires the technician to examine and, if necessary, take apart a unit when a breakdown occurs to find the source of the problem. After the source is identified, conduct the necessary repairs, and then test the unit for proper operation.


  • Demonstrate an excellent knowledge of D.D.C. controls and critical HVAC applications.


  • Observes all safety regulations and practices; observes accepted procedures in care and use of tools and equipment.


  • Performs duties and responsibilities in patient areas in a manner with the least inconvenience or discomfort to the patient; maintain a neat appearance in patient areas.


  • Consistently strives to improve methods of keeping equipment in operation until proper repairs can be completed.


  • Maintains patient care areas in keeping with preventive maintenance and schedules posted.


  • Works under the direction of others when work load requires shifting form normal duties; directs the efforts of others in cases where the job load requires; maintains a cooperative attitude toward other hospital personnel.


  • Must be able to adjust schedule to fit availability of equipment to be maintained or repaired.


  • Maintains sufficient basic knowledge in electrical control circuits and power transmissions equipment to repair, revise or relate such malfunctions as may occur.


  • May have access to secured and highly-sensitive areas (med rooms, pharmacy) for required job functions. Completes annual competency on Medication Room Safety & Security.


  • May perform additional duties as necessary.



QUALIFICATIONS



Education:

* High school diploma or equivalent required

* One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience or one year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.

* Attendance at a school for trades or completion of a service connected with mechanical or electrical training program preferred



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Knowledge of HVACR, instrumentation and controls theory, techniques, planning, estimating, codes, procedures and materials.

* Knowledge of safety rules, procedures and practices, including the proper use of safety equipment as defined by OSHA and industry standards.

* Knowledge of sheet metal installation, repairs and fabrication

* Applies HVACR, instrumentation and controls, sheet metal and safety knowledge indicated herein.

* Safely uses tools and equipment indicated herein.

* Ability to solve problems and manage information indicated herein.

* Requires proficient written and verbal English communication skills, at least on an high school graduate level, to interact with departmental/hospital staff.

* Identifies and avoids hazards as indicated by warning labels, signage, lights and other warning devices.

* Performs work within reasonable lengths of time as measured against trade, industry standards.

* Reads and interprets schematic and construction drawings, service manuals and other technical documents.

* Follows instructions provided by blueprints, drawings, written materials, work orders and oral instruction.

* Communicates (written and oral) with supervisor and departmental/hospital staff.

* Assimilates JHH/departmental mission, policies and procedures as well as specific job safety aspects

* Identifies, analyzes, diagnoses and resolves complex and routine HVACR equipment problems and component conditions

* Makes decisions based on trade practices and supervisor direction as appropriate for the scope of this position

* Plans and estimates the materials and labor required to perform demand work and construction projects

* Recommends and participates in departmental HVACR operations development, improvement, and implementation as it relates to current/anticipated workload

* Must have a good command of the English language both oral and written.

* Requires math, reading, adaptability, logic, driving, and typing/word processing.

* Requires ability to operate specialized equipment: i.e., power tools, portable meters, and emergency generators.



Required Licensure, Certification, On-going Training:

* Successful completion of formal training in a state-approved HVACR Journeyman program at a vocational or technical school, college, or apprenticeship sponsor organization.

* Training in instrumentation and (electronic and pneumatic) control systems serving HVAC and other systems and components/Certification/Registration: Universal CFC certification required.

* Ability to take journeyman exam to within 1 year of employment.



Work Experience:

* 5+ years of commercial HVAC/R experience required.

* Healthcare experience a plus.

* Knowledge of D.D.C. controls and HVAC applications necessary.

* Strong troubleshooting skills and knowledge of refrigeration systems needed.



Machines, Tools, Equipment:

* Knowledge of HVACR, instrumentation and controls theory, techniques, planning, estimating, codes, procedures and materials.

* Knowledge of sheet metal installation, repairs and fabrication

DIMENSIONS



Cost Management:

* Requisitions in house stock items.

* Requests non-stock items for purchase subject to supervisor approval.

* Recommends purchase of tools, materials and supply stock

* Amounts vary and are usually charged to departmental cost center, but may be subsequently allocated otherwise.

* Effectively uses resources within control

Salary Range: Minimum /hour - Maximum /hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
