We are seeking a Data Science Summer Intern to support analytics initiatives within our Digital Marketing and Analytics team. This role is ideal for master's students with strong foundational skills in data modeling, data mining and AIdriven analytics, and an interest in applying those skills to challenges such as credit risk assessment, fraud detection, customer segmentation, operational efficiency and other bank-related needs.

Our Summer Internship Program offers a full-time, 10-week experience (June-August) designed to build real-world skills and industry insight, where you will gain hands-on exposure to the banking world, develop leadership and workplace competencies, and learn how a mutual bank like PeoplesBank puts people first.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, test, and validate data models used for banking use cases such as credit risk scoring, deposit forecasting, fraud detection and operational performance analytics.
  • Conduct data mining on transactional, behavioral and demographic datasets to identify patterns that support business strategy.
  • Support the development and integration of AIdriven analytics tools, such as predictive engines, anomalydetection capabilities and automated insight generation.
  • Work with data engineers to ensure data accuracy, consistency and compliance with banking data governance standards.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) on financial datasets to uncover insights related to customer behavior, risk exposure and market trends.
  • Create dashboards and reports for stakeholders using tools like Power BI or Tableau.
  • Document methodologies, models, and processes to comply with internal audit and regulatory review requirements.
  • Participate in crossfunctional meetings to translate business needs into technical data science approaches.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a 3rd year undergrad or graduate student pursuing a degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Finance or a related field.
  • Understanding of statistical modeling techniques applicable to banking, such as logistic regression, clustering, decision trees and timeseries forecasting.
  • Experience with data mining and proficiency in SQL and Python (Pandas, NumPy scikitlearn).
  • Familiarity with AI/ML tools and the ability to integrate datasets into analytics platforms (Azure ML, Databricks, Sagemaker or similar).
  • Solid communication skills with the ability to present insights to business partners.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills with an emphasis on accuracy and compliance.

    • Understanding current initiatives and contributing to relevant projects
