The UCSF Division of Hospital Medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) is seeking highly skilled hospital medicine physicians to join our team as Medical Staff Physicians. This role is designed for exceptional clinicians who thrive in an academic safety-net hospital environment, providing direct inpatient care at San Francisco's only public hospital and Level 1 trauma center. Hospital Medicine Physicians in this role focus entirely on direct patient care, working across a range of hospital medicine service lines to manage a medically complex, socially diverse patient population. Physicians will practice in a setting that values clinical excellence, teamwork, and continuous professional development, while benefiting from the resources and collaborative environment of UCSF and ZSFG.

Required Qualifications:

  • Board-certified or board-eligible internal medicine physicians with a strong foundation in hospital-based clinical care
  • Physicians who are energized by meaningful, mission-driven work, caring for patients with complex medical and social needs in a dynamic hospital setting
  • Clinicians who are excited to practice in an academic hospital setting, leveraging opportunities for professional growth, mentorship, and faculty development
  • Hospital medicine physicians who are passionate about serving a diverse, safety-net patient population and contributing to the mission of ZSFG and UCSF
  • Background in internal medicine, family medicine, or another relevant specialty
  • Deep commitment to serving vulnerable populations in a safety-net setting
  • Strong teamwork, clinical judgment, and communication skills
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or Cantonese (native-level fluency)
  • Experience working with underserved populations and navigating complex care environments
  • Ability to thrive in dynamic hospital settings and work collaboratively

License/Certification:

  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • MD or DO

Salary Information


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
