What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a Project Planning and Controls Specialist to join the Integrated Business & Site Operations Center to perform project planning and controls for our highly dedicated and mission focused team. We provide analysis and reporting associated with various project controls deliverables and activities, such as project baseline, work package agreements, cost control, cost estimation, projections, or project reviews, including interfacing with the responsible Control Account Manager (CAM), technical Principal Investigator (PI), and business leads to meet the business requirements, program deliverables, and schedule milestones.

On any given day, you may be called on to:
  • Monitoring project budgets, tracking expenditures, forecasting costs, and identifying cost variances.
  • Developing, maintaining, and updating project schedules using tools like Microsoft Project, or Primavera P6.
  • Preparing regular status reports on project progress, schedule adherence, and budget performance for stakeholders and senior leadership
  • Analyzing project data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement
  • Tracking and documenting changes to project scope, schedule or budget and assessing their impact on project objectives
  • Coordinating resource allocation and availability to ensure project milestones are met
  • Working closely with project managers, engineers, peers and other stakeholders to align project plans and controls.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work onsite. Relocation will be provided for those who qualify.

Salary Range

$88,900 - $171,900

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Accounting, Finance or relevant discipline, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience in financial analysis including budgeting, cost estimating, and resource management
  • Experience in schedule development and maintenance including building and updating project timelines, tracking milestones and deliverables, and using scheduling tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera P6).
  • Experience in engaging stakeholders to recommend solutions, providing actionable information for technical leadership using cost and schedule analytics.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and perform under strict deadlines and changing priorities
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills
  • Interest and willingness to gain an understanding of the technical scope
  • Ability to work and excel in an ambiguous, dynamic and fast paced environment

Posting Duration

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Position Information

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
