What you'll do

As a Facilities Maintenance Mechanic - Electrician, you will maintain and operate about 300,000 square feet of Viasat facilities in Duluth, GA. You will join a Facilities team that manages and maintains building systems, equipment, and assets to ensure high customer happiness. You will ensure that all scheduled / unscheduled maintenance and repairs are communicated and performed in a timely manner. Effective technical, organizational, and communication skills will be critical for managing and supporting contractors, fixing building systems and equipment, and providing general maintenance support across the campus. You will support the planning, scheduling, and execution of small projects such as new equipment installations, minor infrastructure modifications, and renovations. With this multi faceted role, you can be guaranteed that no day will be the same.


The day-to-day

The ideal candidate will have the experience and/or skills necessary to accomplish the following responsibilities:

  • Operate Building Automation System's (BAS)
  • Operate Computer Maintenance Management System (Maintenance Connection)
  • Conduct inspections of Fire Protection systems and building conditions to ensure alignment to Life Safety Codes (such as NFPA) and OSHA Safety standards
  • Perform inspections of building electrical and mechanical systems
  • Implement and/or coordinate preventive upkeep and restoration for all building systems. Use manufacturer's recommendations or industry standards as guidelines. Systems include mechanical units like air handling units, heat pumps, and air compressors. Electrical systems such as switchgear, generators, and UPS units are involved. Plumbing systems include water heaters and water recirculation pumps.
  • Interpret and manage construction/technical drawings, construction submittals, equipment/systems specifications, and wiring diagrams.
  • Troubleshoot complex electro-mechanical problems with building systems and/or equipment
  • Operate material handling equipment, battery equipment, moving machinery and other powered equipment, such as but not limited to scissor lifts, forklifts, cranes, and electric pallet jacks.
  • Work in a team environment and be willing to assume additional or new responsibilities.
  • Provide basic maintenance support - adjust door closers, install basic door hardware, hang whiteboards, replace lights, etc.
  • Coordinate and complete small to medium size people and/or equipment moves, securing subcontractor support as needed.
  • Coordinate and implement the installation of office and/or laboratory furniture, arranging subcontractor assistance as necessary.
  • Arrange and coordinate subcontractors as necessary for Facilities support.
  • Coordinate and schedule security escorts for work to be performed by subcontractors.
  • Help oversee the quality of work from the Janitorial team and provide feedback and/or directions as necessary directly to team members or crew leader/supervisor.
  • Provide support for leading small projects (renovations, infrastructure modifications, equipment installations, etc.) or for supervising workmanship from subcontractors working on projects.

What you'll need

  • 5-8 years of technical experience in facilities operations and maintenance, or an equivalent combination of experience and certifications.
  • Solid knowledge of facilities installations and devices and ability to use hand tools
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Interpret construction drawings, detailed plans, and circuit layouts to resolve complex electro-mechanical issues.
  • Ability to perform "On-Call" responsibilities for after-hours or weekend coverage.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong communicator with a focus on customer satisfaction and a supportive, team-oriented work ethic
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to operate a crane, scissor lift, and forklift (training to be provided)
  • Up to 10% domestic travel.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience is required
  • US Citizenship is required

What will help you on the job

  • Technical degree or certifications in HVAC, Electrical, or other building systems.
  • Experience with Tracer SCES and Automated Logic Controls (ALC).
  • Knowledge of building and life safety codes (NFPA 1, NFPA 70, NFPA 90).
  • Experience managing small construction projects and infrastructure modifications.

Salary range

$28.37 - $44.47 / hourly.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $35.1 - $52.4/ hourly
