Job Summary

The Student Services Internship Coordinator will develop and coordinate internships and work-based experiences for the Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) and the City of Chandler (CoC) Collaborative Partnership. This position will coordinate work-based experiences for students in a variety of departments within the City of Chandler. This position will align the City of Chandler's work-based experiences to academic programs and Fields of Interests at CGCC. Through the partnership, this position will address workforce needs at the City of Chandler while providing students with real-world career preparation and professional development. This position assists CoC Department Supervisors in creating internships and guides them in hiring and supporting interns. Additional duties include monitoring compliance, data collection and analysis, assessing workforce needs at CoC, conducting student appointments; recruiting; serving as a liaison for CGCC and CoC; and supporting students in career preparation.

Additional Information

CGCC's Academic Advisement & Career Services Department and the City of Chandler Human Resource Department would collaboratively supervise this position with split work hours between the physical locations of CGCC & the City of Chandler. An identified supervisor at each entity would collaborate on this position's performance evaluation.

Essential Functions

30% CGCC Student Support
  • Coordinates the development and planning of experiential learning including but not limited to internships and work-based experiences (WBE)
  • Provides cohort management for participating students including regular check in meetings, coaching, and professional development
  • Advises and monitors student experiences
  • Develops and conducts career and professional opportunities for students which includes workshops, fairs, and classroom/community presentations, etc.
  • Assists Career Services with events, initiatives, student appointments, and other activities related to students' career development, career readiness, and student success.
  • Acts as primary liaison to connect students with campus resources and problem solves complex student concerns
  • Refers students to resources and support services offered by departments and divisions across CGCC

20% City of Chandler Department Supervisor Support
  • Develops and monitors programming of the Internship partnership with the City of Chandler
  • Cultivates relationships with City of Chandler Departments and Divisions to determine possible internship opportunities
  • Provides consultation on student internship descriptions and mid-term & final internship performance feedback in collaboration with the City of Chandler.
  • Facilitates orientation and training for City of Chandler student supervisors
  • Leads the Internship Application Process including assisting supervisors with interviews, intern selection and onboarding selected interns
  • Monitors the internship lifecycle
  • Acts as primary liaison for CGCC and City of Chandler

20% Recruiting Students
  • Markets internships & WBE opportunities to students
  • Facilitates student appointments for interested students in aligning internships to their field of study, the application process, resume & cover letter preparation, and interview preparation
  • Conduct information sessions and application assistance workshops
  • Maintains virtual informational platforms for CGCC Career Services such as Canvas & Coyote Connect to promote opportunities, as well as post related information across college-wide platforms

20% Technology & Data
  • Evaluates Maricopa and CGCC and CoC policy to determine and ensure compliance
  • Assists with usage of online platforms utilized by both CGCC & CoC
  • Continuously develops, maintains, tracks, and monitors milestones and data collection
  • Conducts surveys
  • Analyzes and maintains program data to assess program effectiveness
  • Presents milestones and program information to City of Chandler Leadership, CGCC Leadership, Career Related Conferences, and/or the Community

10% Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of student services or college teaching experience, or experience coordinating, administering, planning, or evaluating programs.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Desired Qualifications

  1. Master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
  2. Two or more years of experience in Career Services, career advising, coordinating work-based experiences, workforce development, or job recruitment.
  3. Experience cultivating partnerships with employers, community organizations, and/or government agencies
  4. Experience providing services to students in higher education
  5. Experience developing and presenting group presentations, workshops, orientations, conference presentations or other public speaking experience.
  6. Effective written communication skills (as evident by application materials)
  7. Experience using computer software (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, or similar software), student database management systems (PeopleSoft, Handshake, Simplicity, etc), and learning management systems (Canvas, BBlearn, etc.)
  8. One year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years.

**** Experience within other community college systems or higher education institutions is valued and may be considered in addition to MCCCD experience. External candidates are encouraged to apply.

Special Working Conditions
