Overview
At SSOE, we design what's next for the world's leading manufacturers. We're hiring a Mechanical Design Group Manager to lead and grow our Glass Furnace mechanical design capability. You'll guide a team of mechanical designers through high-impact work on specialized glass systems and material handling equipment, the critical infrastructure that keeps industrial manufacturing moving. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity where you'll balance technical oversight, project delivery, and talent development while partnering closely with multiple disciplines across the organization.

Responsibilities
Effectively lead, manage, and mentor a group of furnace design staff with an emphasis on employee growth, project success, and overall performance.
- Provide coordination, organization, planning and assignment of projects primarily within manufacturing, glass, and other similar sectors.
- Set clear technical goals and objectives, assess technical progress, and instill a performance-oriented culture with a focus on technical accountability. Deploy a strategy that builds, retains, and engages all employees through technical inclusion and teamwork.
- Participate in comprehensive design reviews internally and with clients, providing clear technical presentations, clarifications, and incorporating feedback to optimize constructability and performance.
- Coordinates with various engineering disciplines within the organization to collaborate, optimize, and improve work and staff sharing by participating in multi-discipline technical strategy sessions.
- Assists all levels of Management in articulating technical discipline capability requirements in support of strategic and business objectives.
- Identifies, champions, mentors, and coaches the development of our less experienced staff and looks for ways to elevate the technical and professional expertise of the team.
Qualifications
- Minimum 20 years' professional experience in furnace or mechanical design with specific expertise in technical-related areas such as furnace design, material handling equipment for manufacturing, or industrial facilities.
- Demonstrated experience in leadership and/or management roles with direct reports, demonstrated a proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop a technical team.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, project teams, and internal stakeholders at all levels.
- Salary Range: $115,000 - $150,000/year depending on location, education, depth of relevant experience. Opportunity for ample rewards, leadership incentive/bonus program, and ownership investment opportunities.
