State Department Federal Credit Union is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to oversee its Home Equity and Consumer Lending teams. This role is responsible for coaching, developing, and managing a high-performing lending group to achieve key business, service, and sales objectives while ensuring regulatory compliance and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will foster a collaborative, results-driven environment, oversee daily lending operations, support staff development and cross-training, and partner closely with leadership to drive continuous improvement, member satisfaction, and the successful execution of consumer lending programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs and oversees the daily operations of Lending Solutions including the handling of incoming mail and facsimiles, timely loan processing, Senior Loan Officer work assignments, loan processor work assignments, member notification of loan actions, scheduling of loan disbursements, and cross-selling other Credit Union products and services.
- Monitors Lending Solutions staff work schedules including arrival/departure times, lunch, and break schedules to ensure adherence to time limitations and provisions for coverage. Reports any scheduling difficulties to the Director.
- Performs supervisory duties to include coaching, setting goals, performance appraisal preparation, reviewing leave requests, reviewing timecards, and recommending hiring, promotion, and corrective actions.
- Acts as Manager in charge during the absence of the regular Manager and handles all matters that may arise.
- Works with other Assistant Managers and Managers to ensure good communication and consistent practice and proper administration of procedures and policies to ensure swift, compliant and accurate processing of loan applications.
- Makes recommendations and implements plans for the operation of the department, including equipment, personnel, scheduling, workflow, work methods, and incentives.
- Assists with Training Lending Solutions employees and schedules cross training of existing staff.
- Assists Director with development, implementation, processing, and monitoring of all loan programs to include consumer loans and credit cards. Leads the team through changes and adoption of new programs and strategies to increase member satisfaction.
- Regularly prepares sales and production reports for the Consumer lending department, coaches the team on results and forwards the information to the Director of Consumer Lending as needed.
- Assists with preparation and organization of information requested for audits, ensuring accuracy and completion. Participates in the audit process as necessary to provide support and clarifying information.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Minimum of five years Consumer and Home Equity Lending experience within a financial institution, with credit union experience preferred.
- Knowledge of lending laws and federal regulations as they apply to consumer, home equity, credit card, and unsecured line of credit loans.
- Associates degree is preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience is essential, including the ability to motivate teams, foster collaboration, and achieve set objectives.
- Familiarity with SDFCU loan policies and procedures preferred.
- Strong numerical aptitude and the ability to work with data effectively are required.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to organize tasks for efficient workflow are essential.
- Must be able to work independently, manage time effectively, and remain productive under pressure with frequent interruptions.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
This position requires Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) registration within 30 days of employment.
