Network Engineer

Join Life Cycle Engineering in support of the NCIS IT support services mission headquartered in Quantico, Virginia. The Information Technology Directorate (ITD) supports the NCIS core mission areas to investigate and defeat criminal, terrorist, and foreign intelligence threats by planning for and providing services through appropriate use of the people, equipment, technology, and infrastructure resources of the United States (U.S.) Navy and Marine Corps.

This position is expected to start in Q3 of 2026

Position Summary:

The Network Engineer tests and analyzes all elements of network facilities for NCIS and utilizes strong verbal and written skills to coordinate networking operations with team.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must have an active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and controls the performance and status of network resources on multiple enclaves utilizing software and hardware tools.
  • Identifies and diagnoses problems and factors affecting network performance. Analyzes network performance, usage, traffic flows, access, and interfaces.
  • Provides technical planning and analysis for communication activities including designing, integrating, installing, troubleshooting, repairing, testing, monitoring, reporting, documenting, training users, working with appropriate vendors, and performing preventative maintenance services.
  • Performs testing, provisioning, operations and emergency response for ongoing VOIP network operations. Oversees and manages the deployment of upgrades to existing voice, video and other related systems in a multi-location environment. Ensures all required operational and support documents are current and up to date.
  • Works continuously on improving relevant systems, applications, and infrastructure, as well as processes.
  • Maintains a current understanding of emerging technologies and trends in cloud service and other data center technologies.
  • Maintains a current understanding of emerging technologies and trends in online media, cloud service, storage solutions, and other data center technologies.


Required Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of increasingly complex and progressive experience in computer system/network engineering. Includes two (2) years of specialized experience related to the assigned task.
  • Two (2) years of expert level configuration of Cisco routers and switches including (but not limited to) the following models: 4500, 6500, 3750, 3850, ASR 1000, Cisco Nexus platforms 2k, 5k, 7k, 9k.
  • Expert level knowledge with configuring routing protocols, OSPF and BGP in enterprise environments. Expert knowledge of network performance metrics, packet capture and analysis, and network troubleshooting.
  • Experience with configuration and management of firewalls; CISCO Firepower, Palo Alto, Forcepoint Sidewinder, and Juniper.
  • Experience with Solarwinds, Kiwi Cat Tools, ISE, Prime, ACI, NSX or other SDN solutions.
  • Experience with SD-WAN, preferably migration from MPLS to SD-WAN.
  • Write, understand, distill and document solution requirements.
  • Experience performing system administration duties on Cisco and monitoring systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve LAN, WAN, wireless, SAN problems using various types of tools and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Minimum of Security Plus (+)
  • Active CCIE certification (Route/Switch) is desirable

  • Regular physical activity including walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing; occasional prolonged sitting
  • Ability to speak, read, hear and write, with or without assistance
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment
