Job Summary (Primary function)
The Senior Staff Scientist, Toxicology position assists with all aspects of set-up and conduct of exploratory pharmacokinetic studies and technical support of toxicology studies conducted in house.

Essential Functions of the Job (Key responsibilities)

  • Study lead for in-house pharmacokinetic studies with responsibility for all study-related activities including scheduling, set-up, dosing, monitoring, sample collection and processing.
  • Conduct dosing and sample collection, and perform animal observations (e.g., clinical observations, body weights) in rodents for in-house toxicology studies, as needed.
  • Conduct animal necropsy, with a focus on rodents.
  • Data collection and maintenance of appropriate documentation for each study. Assist with compilation, analysis and QC of data for reporting, as necessary.
  • Handling and formulation of test articles (experimental pharmaceuticals).
  • Assist with maintaining common laboratory areas (e.g., formulations, necropsy, procedure rooms), including equipment maintenance/calibration, monitoring inventory and ordering supplies.
  • Coordination of study related activities for assigned studies, including scheduling and coordination of cross-functional support, as needed.
  • Support identification and resolution of any technical issues that arise during study conduct.
  • Provide training to team members in fundamental animal procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for new methods and approaches to maximize efficiency, and incorporation of 3Rs into organizational practices.

Qualifications (Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience, and competency)

  • A degree in the life sciences or a related field, or equivalent experience, is preferred.
  • Experience in a relevant scientific discipline is preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in laboratory rodent care and handling. Experience with animal procedures (observation, dosing, sampling, necropsy). Familiarity with automated sample collection systems (e.g., Culex) is a plus, but not required.
  • Familiarity with laboratory and research procedures and scientific methods.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel applications. Ability to perform basic spreadsheet functions to manipulate and summarize data (mathematical functions, table generation, graphing). Experience with Prism is beneficial.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on inclusivity and cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to work occasional weekends or non-routine hours.
