Summary: The Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) serves as the senior clinical leader responsible for aligning health information technology with the organization's clinical and operational goals. This role ensures that digital tools, data systems, and clinical workflows support highquality patient care, regulatory compliance, and strategic growth. The CMIO acts as a liaison between clinical staff, IT teams, and executive leadership, driving innovation and optimizing the use of electronic health records (EHRs), analytics platforms, and emerging technologies.Additionally, the CMIO will serve as a clinical Physician in a 0.2 FTE capacity. Responsibilities: CMIO (0.6 FTE)
- Provide clinical leadership with the design, implementation, adoption and meaningful use of UNC Health Care's advanced health information technology platform.
- Engage care providers in the development, integration and use of the organization's systems.
- Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of EHR systems and clinical applications.
- Establish and lead processes for the governance, planning and prioritizing of projects in support of clinical and business needs.
- Represent the needs and requirements of the physician community and serve as an advocate of management in promoting the use of information technology in the clinical setting.
- Formulates objectives and priorities and implements plans consistent with the long-term interests of the organization.
Physician (0.2 FTE, Clinical Role)
- Provide direct patient care within the physician's specialty, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing clinical management.
- Ensure highquality, evidencebased care consistent with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary clinical teams to support safe, coordinated, and patientcentered care.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care teams regarding clinical findings, treatment options, and care plans.
- Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation to meet all compliance, billing, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical meetings, and professional development activities.
- Support transitions of care, appropriate referrals, and continuity of patient care.
- Provide consultation within the clinician's specialty area as needed.

- Medical degree (MD or DO) with active or eligible medical licensure.
- Board certified/board eligible
- * Significant clinical experience (5+ years preferred).* Demonstrated leadership in clinical informatics, digital health, or EHR optimization.* Strong understanding of healthcare operations, regulatory requirements, and quality frameworks.
