Job Summary
This position serves as a Respiratory Therapist functioning as a Polysomnographic Technologist, providing both routine and complex cardiopulmonary and respiratory diagnostic and therapeutic services. The role performs polysomnographic procedures for hospital inpatients and outpatients across all age groups and is responsible for accurately scoring and interpreting polysomnographic records to support patient diagnosis and treatment. - California Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP)
- National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist experience
- Develop a working knowledge of the current database to accurately maintain the clinical database and archive digital studies to storage media
- Interpersonal communication skills to interact with tact and diplomacy with hospital and clinic patients, physicians, and staff at all levels
- Ability to engage in collaborative problem-solving with coworkers and staff
- Must have the ability to function as a "team player," being considerate and exible, considering the needs of your peers
- Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient condentiality is maintained, and a professional, respectful hospital, clinic, or laboratory environment exists at all times
- Ability to maintain composure, eciency and a positive, customer-service oriented manner during periods of peak workload, with frequent interruptions, under tight deadlines, and when interacting with patients who are ill, angry, or emotionally distressed
- Accomplish a variety of concurrent assignments in an effective and ecient manner
- Organizes and prioritizes assignments to complete work in a timely and ecient manner, particularly when there are changes in workload or assignments
- Remains exible and adaptable to changes in policies and procedures
- Written and oral communication skills to clearly provide information and explanations. and instructions to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or for whom English may be a second language
- Filing skills to maintain physical and digital logs and les of information in alphabetical, chronological, and/ or numerical order, such that it is current and easily retrievable
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (R. PSG T.) or must be eligible to obtain within 12 months of hire
- Two years of experience working as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with adults and pediatrics
- Two years of experience working as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist

Department Overview The Sleep Disorders Laboratory is part of the UCDMC Sleep Disorders Center, an American Academy of Sleep Medicine-accredited facility. The Laboratory is managed by the Neurodiagnostic Services Director in collaboration with the Medical Director. The overall clinical supervision of the laboratory is under the Neurodiagnostic Supervisors. Department Specific Job Scope Obtains, reviews, and interprets sleep data and assesses the need for and response to respiratory interventions within the Sleep Lab. Responds to cardiopulmonary emergencies, provides airway maintenance, manual and mechanical ventilator support using a variety of devices, and administers medical gases, humidity therapy, inhaled aerosol medications, bronchial hygiene, and bronchial therapies. Instructs the patient/family and continuing care providers in the administration of respiratory and sleep procedures and the proper use of respiratory therapy equipment and supplies. Involves the restoration of the patient's respiratory and pulmonary function; alleviates pain; plans and administers prescribed respiratory therapy. Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local legal and certification requirements. POSITION INFORMATION

Work Environment
