Your Role at Cabot

Under supervision of scientists/engineers, the intern will perform laboratory experiments using state-of-the-art rheology and viscosity measurement instruments at CABOT or at a local University lab. The candidate will be responsible for generating different ink formulations as directed and measure dynamic viscosity/ rheology properties of those formulations to understand effects of different design variables. The candidate will interface with outside laboratory experts to interpret the data to improve our understanding of formulation handles that effectively improve our dispersions.

The candidate will provide experimental support and product characterization analysis for key projects within the Inkjet Applications Development Group. Candidate will also provide key support to customers through sample preparation and shipment and perform root cause analysis to solve technical issues. This is a great opportunity for a qualified college or graduate student to gain industrial experience and make a real contribution in a short period. Due to the technical nature of the work involved, it requires a relatively strong technical background, preferably a materials or chemical engineering student with great laboratory skills and some knowledge of viscosity/ rheology of liquids/ coating/gels (some prior experience in viscosity measurement preferred)

How You Will Make an Impact

* Assists in the planning and execution of high-throughput R&D trials and experiments to develop application knowledge of Inkjet materials in inks
* Assists in the characterization of the properties of materials through various analytical techniques
* Analysis of experimental design results and report results in an organized format
* Clearly enters/reports back data and offers interpretation of results
* Drives/troubleshoots viscosity/ rheology measurement equipment (TriPAV and Rheosense) to successfully execute experiments

What You Will Bring to Cabot

* Must be enrolled in undergraduate and/or graduate program
* University level laboratory experience
* Familiarity with design of experiments
* Experience writing formal laboratory reports
* Have strong willingness to learn new things
* Strong focus on safety, basic chemical safety training experience preferred
* Materials Engineering, plastics, or chemical coursework
* General mechanical aptitude
* Prefer a minimum 12-week commitment
