Your Role at Cabot Tires play a critical role in vehicle safety and performance, since they are the only contact with the road when driving a vehicle. Tires are highly engineered to provide long life, traction in different weather conditions (snow, rain, ice, etc.), responsive handling and reduce fuel consumption for gas powered vehicles or increase range for electric vehicles. Under the supervision of scientists/engineers, the intern will perform laboratory experiments to alter the surface of carbon black and evaluate the modified carbon black in a rubber compound that can be used in the future to reduce fuel consumption within a tire, while maintaining other performance characteristics.\ The candidate will provide experimental support and rubber compound characterization for key projects within the Reinforcement Materials Development Group. This is a great opportunity for a qualified college or graduate student to gain industrial experience and make a real contribution in a short period of time. Due to the technical nature of the work involved, it requires a relatively strong technical background, preferably a materials or chemical engineering student with great laboratory skills and a strong foundation and comfort with software and computers. At the conclusion of the project a brief report and a technical presentation will serve as deliverables. The ideal candidate for this position will have at least one course in materials science and statistics.
