Overview
Responsible for providing direct supervision in the absence of the Shift Supervisor. Also responsible for all the normal duties of a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Performs related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:
- Performs physical assessment of patients. Acts as an advanced patient care assessor (PCA).
- Performs all forms of floor therapy to departmental standards to include: IS, IPV, IPPB, CPAP, BiPAP, handheld nebulizer, CPT peak flow, continuous nebulizers, sputum induction, diaphragmatic and segmental breathing exercises, cough training, suctioning and any other applicable therapies as outlined in the procedure manual. Performs the set up, administration and maintenance of all oxygen and air therapies, to include oxygen rounds on floors and in intensive care units. Provides and maintains all forms of monitoring equipment provided by the Respiratory Care department. Performs all procedures in accordance with the Infection Control guidelines. Observes Universal Precautions consistently including PPEs.
- Sets up and monitors all ventilators in the intensive care units, including non-conventional ventilators and modes of ventilation.
- Performs all documentation in patients charts, electronic or paper, to departmental standards. Accepts and documents in the patients chart verbal and phone orders from physicians. Writes orders appropriately per protocols and guidelines as required. Acceptable barcode and medication policy compliance
- Performs intensive care treatments including NICU/PICU.
- Provides direct supervision in the absence of the shift supervisor. Meets staffing requirements for all shifts as needed according to departmental standards. Attends and participates in all management functions. Actively and openly supports the goals and initiatives of the Respiratory Care Department and the Health System.
- Provides with the supervisor continuous supervisory coverage on their shift. Communicates well with co-workers with-in the Respiratory Care Department and throughout the Health System.
- Provides input regarding the development of policy and procedures for the department, to include feedback or concerns in reference to current policies and procedures. Provides feedback to the supervisor regarding employee performance. Exhibits consultative and participative leadership characteristics.
- Assures all work is done according to departmental and hospital guidelines. Effectively utilizes resources to accomplish productivity standards and meet Departmental and Health System goals.
Qualifications: Education: RRT. Licensure: Meets State licensure requirements. Experience: Three years of respiratory critical care experience Certifications: Pass the advanced registry (RRT) level examination administered by the NBRC. Preferred Education: Bachelor's of Science in Respiratory Care or equivalent. Preferred Experience: Prefer supervisory experience.
