Overview
Performs direct patient care in all aspects of respiratory care, according to physician's orders. Consults physicians on effectiveness of therapy. Acts as an advanced resource person for physicians and nursing on respiratory care. Performs duties as assigned.
Position Details:
Responsibilities: Safety/Risk Management
- Demonstrates safe medication administration.
- Follows all policies/procedures for Incident Reporting/Sentinel Events/Mercy Event Reporting System (MERS).
- Follows all confidentiality policies/procedures.
- Complies with infection control guidelines.
- Creates a safe environment through various safety practices, including, but not limited to:
- Fall precautions - Restraint management - Patient Identification - Unit/Department specific policies Coordination of Services/Communication Management
- Functions as a Preceptor, Clinical Instructor, and/or Resource person.
- Participates in committees, and activities (Departmental quality excellence projects).
- Works in designated patient care areas as assigned.
- Coordinates workflow by communications to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
- Participates in Physician Rounds.
- Identifies and resolves problems related to patient, families, physicians, staff, and equipment.
- Communicates patient goals, objectives and changes in status to other healthcare team members, and utilizes input to revise care plan for optimum patient benefit.
- Shift report is factual, accurate, organized, complete, current, and confidential.
- Makes independent decisions in routine and complex situations and informs appropriate team members of actions and results.
Primary Clinical Aspects
- Performs technical skills relative to area of respiratory practice.
- Demonstrates competence in assisting physician with diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
- Demonstrates ability to assess and identify needs of patient and families (physical, psychosocial, and spiritual).
- Implements appropriate respiratory care interventions and procedures.
- Documentation is factual, accurate, organized, complete, current, and confidential.
- Identifies patient education needs, utilizes appropriate resources to meet needs, and documents patient teaching.
- Initiates, updates, and maintains care plan in a timely manner to reflect changing needs of patients and families.
- Assures all patient charges/credits are entered appropriately.
- Continues to stay current with the literature and best practice in your designated field.
- Demonstrates proper time management skills and prioritizes patient care.
- Demonstrates flexibility regarding workload, assignments, and other change.
Qualifications: Education: Graduate of CoArc approved Respiratory Care program Licensure: Meets state licensure requirements and has a current Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license. Experience: None. Certifications Hold the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential awarded by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). For co-workers who work in the Emergency Room PALS is required.
