Primary Responsibilities:
The Sustain Analytics team is part of the Business Planning department, which also includes Decision Support and Business Analytics teams. The Business Analyst Senior (Finance), on the Sustain Analytics team is responsible for completing a broad range of analytic, planning, benchmarking, and other operational support activities for one or more designated members of the Leadership Team (Senior VP's, Clinical VP's, Operating VP's and Executive Directors), across the enterprise.
A critical measure of each Business Analyst's success will be the extent to which the analytic and planning needs of each person supported are met in a timely, consistent, high quality manner. This will require close collaboration with staff within the clinical departments, and many other analytic, financial, and planning groups throughout the MGB enterprise, including Sustain Management Office (SMO), Business Planning, Financial Planning, Digital, and local financial, operational, and analytical teams and decision-making bodies at each of the MGB entities. An ability to synthesize, summarize and effectively communicate the analytic and planning work that is performed is key.
Surgical Profitability: General
Support all data analytic needs to support strategic business decision making on surgical profitability, including surgical cost reduction, clinical supply utilization optimization, OR efficiency, and improved block scheduling.
Assessing current state surgical profitability for comparable procedures performed in perioperative and procedural areas across the MGB enterprise Identifying potential areas of opportunity through analyzing differences in clinical supply utilization across and within the different entities at MGB, including surgeon and product variation and waste reduction Collaborating with perioperative and procedural teams areas to better understand clinical application and financial opportunity, relative to quality and preference Quantifying financial impact of any recommended changes in practice Conduct financial reporting and analysis by procedure and/or procedure groups to enhance service line growth strategy across the perioperative and procedural areas Utilize industry benchmarks to compare cost, profitability, utilization, and pricing for procedural cases and clinical supplies
Develop consistent executive level reporting, to be used by clinical and administrative leaders within the perioperative and procedural areas, to measure performance and support best practice across the enterprise Catalogue current state analytics across various systems, and develop standard analytics and reporting in one single system to meet varied stakeholder needs across the enterprise Escalate challenges, discrepancies, roadblocks regarding data and analytics to manager or appropriate data owner
Surgical Profitability: Information Systems Management
Communication Activities
Prepare concise, creative, professional summaries of analyses and plans for members of Senior Leadership, as appropriate. Effectively present findings to all levels of staff, targeting the presentation towards the knowledge level and needs of the audience Provide input to the team or senior leadership on additional analyses and key next steps Develop summary communication materials for executive level and board presentations, as requested.
Keep current regarding trends and developments in the health care field, particularly as they pertain to workforce management, analytic and decision support tools, financial trends, evolving technologies and programs, etc.
Project Management
Promote widespread education across the MGB enterprise for perioperative and procedural management information system, including development of training resources and materials, and facilitating educational road shows with appropriate teams Manage ad hoc projects related to business, financial and/or strategic planning for Perioperative and Procedural leadership and Sustain, in collaboration and alignment with the Sustain Management Office (SMO) and Project Management Office (PMO).
Other General Sustain:
Provide the following analytic and planning evaluations for any initiatives within the supported MGB Sustain Core Teams (including, but not limited to: Workforce/HR and Talent, Clinical Practice and Supply Utilization, Clinical Pharmacy, Non-Clinical Supplies and Purchased Services, Research, Digital, Real Estate, and Enterprise Asset Management):
Assess data and analytic needs of an initiative, program, service, or clinical area for MGB Sustain Provide financial and analytic support to Sustain Core teams in support of impact identification, implemented opportunity measurement, and realization Serve as liasions to Financial Planning team, as well as local finance/budget teams across MGB entities in communicating financial and operational impact to budget and run rate Collaborate with various individuals from any operational, analytic, planning, or support departments and teams across MGB Provide any other ad hoc Sustain related financial, analytic, or business planning needs requested by MGB Senior Leadership team
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; Academic experience focused in finance, financial analytics, data analytics, and/or operations management At least 3 years progressive experience in financial analytics, materials management analytics, clinical supply utilization analytics, surgical capacity, and/or data analytics required Experience working in a health system, hospital and/or similar medical center environment preferred.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
Comfortable with querying and manipulating large amounts of data and the ability to ensure data integrity using quality checks at various points in the process. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively at all levels of complex organization. Detailed understanding of financial systems and processes. Strong technical knowledge of budgeting and financial analysis. Exceptional analytic skills and knowledge of analytic tools and resources (Tableau, advanced excel functions) Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong oral and written communication skills (Powerpoint and Outlook), including the ability to communicate analysis details to different individuals and audiences throughout and across the enterprise Excellent ability to work with senior organizational leadership and with staff across complex multi-entity organization. Excellent organizational skills, including ability to work on multiple projects at once Ability to effectively respond to time sensitive issues and meet deadlines Embodies Sustain operating principles of: system mindset, agile decision making, collaborative behavior, and personal accountability

Working Conditions:
Full-time Monday through Friday, standard ET business hours. Role is remote, but may require occasional presence on site at Assembly Row in Somerville, MA or travel between MGB entities and Assembly Row.
