Maintenance Capabilities Specialist - Covington, GA

The Maintenance Capabilities Specialist supports their team through technical capability building, learning and development through maintenance craft skill, equipment component, and maintenance foundational system expertise. They also serve as the on-shift mentor and onboarding support for their team members.

Shift hours:

  • 12-hour shifts with 3-2-2 schedule
    • 6:00 am to 6:07 pm (day shift)
    • 6:00 pm to 6:07 am (night shift)
  • Shift rotation every 8 weeks (day to night or night to days)
  • Scheduled Work Pattern
    • Short week: (Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday) 36.36 hours
    • Long week: (Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday) 48.48 hours
    • Rotate Days/Nights every 8 weeks
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, any shift, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Plant operation is 24 hours per day, 7 days per week

Pay:

  • $37.97 per hour up to $39.62 per hour based on skillset and experience

The Covington, GA plant stands out for its highly skilled workforce of technicians who can move up through five levels to reach the top pay range. The plant emphasizes internal promotion and provides opportunities for employees to develop their skills and advance their careers. We are the largest producer of Cinnamon Toast Crunch and a significant number of employees have been with the company since the plant's opening. The plant has a Good Goes Around Committee focused on employee engagement and hosts different family and community events throughout the year.

Safety (10%)

Support Human and Food Safety

  • Build capability of team via Human Safety and Food Safety standards
  • Take action to mitigate human and food safety risks through work as done conversations and when risk mitigation opportunities are known.

Build Capability in Others (40%)

  • Build capability in team members through maintenance foundational system capability within your team (examples, DH, BE, LMS).
  • Build, mentor and coach the team's technical equipment capability, and when required, facilitate hands on demonstration to validate learning outcomes.
  • Build the team's troubleshooting capability and when needed, coordinate and/or assist the team to solve the problem. Leverage problem solving processes (IR, UPS).

Onboard new members to the shift team in partnership with other trainers as designed by the site's learning program.

Process Leadership and Ownership (20%)

  • Driving System Utilization (DSU):
  • Engage in Improvement Plan creation and execution.

Daily Direction Setting (DDS):

  • Engage in daily loss elimination via shift DDS plan for the day.
  • Support data accuracy and CMMS utilization.

Learning System:

  • Responsible to execute and monitor the learning plan.
  • Enable shift team members to progress in their learning.
  • Create, maintain and improve learning materials and programs.
  • Identify and address skill gaps on the team that are related to losses.
  • Enable training by freeing up the right resources to develop knowledge and skill.
  • Reinforce process rigor through checking for understanding and assessments.
  • Facilitate change management for continuous improvement in technology.

Know Your Operation, Data, and Technology (10%)

  • Gain working knowledge to collect, analyze and interpret data to make informed decisions (CMMS).
  • Build in depth knowledge of production system and equipment to effectively:
    • troubleshoot and build operational mastery of the workforce.
    • support new equipment and processes as they are introduced (vendor visits, improvements, TT&T plans and new performance requirements).
  • Secure fluency of Problem-Solving tools and processes (IR, UPS, QCO).
  • Increase proficiency in creating, maintaining, and utilizing a training/skills matrix to identify skill gaps, develop training plans and track employee progress.

Back-Up Coverage (20%)

This position will provide backup support as needed, ensuring business continuity and operational efficiency.

  • Maintenance Team Leader
  • Asset Care Leader
  • Mechanical support as appropriate (no supervisory responsibility)

What you have to offer:

  • Minimum of a high school education
  • Preferred Degree Requirements: Associates
  • Preferred Major Area of Study: Technical/Vocational
  • 2 years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment is required
  • 5 years manufacturing experience is required
  • All employees must go through a forklift certification course and are required to drive a forklift

Specific Job Experience or Skills Needed:

  • Demonstrated leadership and working in a highly collaborative environment
  • Success in driving results through process and teamwork
  • Proven success reducing losses and improving performance in a manufacturing setting
  • Demonstrated technical capability and knowledge of unit operations and machinery (at least one production platform).
  • Skilled at communicating between work groups, and with cross-functional resources
  • Has experience pulling and analyzing data and leveraging data systems to interpret information (e.g., Maximo)

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces
  • Ability to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms
  • Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment such as safety shoes, face masks, safety glasses, hearing protection, a hard hat, a hair/beard net and gloves when required
  • Willing and able to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment
  • Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environmental working conditions
  • Willing to work around industrial high-speed moving machinery
  • Ability to work with allergens that might be present in a food environment
