Position summary: Responsible for preparing plans from the provided engineering sketches and details for projects. Emphasis in traffic design for State and Local Departments of Transportation.

Essential functions and responsibilities


  • Transfer engineering sketches and details to plans utilizing AutoCAD and Microstation
  • Makes basic engineering computations and prepares and revises specifications
  • Make quality control corrections to contract drawings
  • Prepare exhibits for reports, public meetings or presentations
  • Prepares full construction package plan sets for various DOTs and local agencies

Nonessential functions and responsibilities


  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Assist in field reviews of project design sites

Required Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Enrolled in or recently obtained College level engineering degree
  • Proficient in AutoCAD C3D and Microstation V8i and/or ORD drafting platforms
  • Knowledge of design and drafting procedures for DOTs
  • Traffic Design experience in Traffic Signal design
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

Preferred Experience


  • Technical school training with courses in computer-aided drafting
  • Ability to obtain EI licensure within 4 years


Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
