The Arizona Student Unions is looking for talented cooks to join our team.

YOUR ROLE: As a Cook, you are part of a team that creates great tasting food with food safety in focus. You will be preparing food in a variety of forms using a unique combination of equipment. Cactus Grill is an All You Care To Eat restaurant where cooks will be making food to order and preparing recipes in bulk. We are located inside the Student Union where our main focus is to fuel the Wildcat Community! This position will cook/prep according to recipes and requires knowledge of basic kitchen equipment, knife skills and food safety knowledge. Must be able to work nights, holidays, weekends, and days. This position is on an academic schedule.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares
    hot and cold food items per recipes and methods, ensuring quality,
    freshness, and safety.
  • Coordinates food ordering needs with sous chef and or supervisors.
  • Prepares orders according to the recipes and methods of preparation.
  • Maintains quality, freshness and safety of all products at all times.
  • Washes hands using 20 second food code standard and wears gloves.
  • Multitasking with being able to prep and cook in a timely manner.
  • Ensure clean work surfaces, plexi-glass, walls, shelves, sinks and floors.
  • Ensures correct labeling of dates for all food items and stores in designated areas of kitchen and coolers following Pima County Health Codes.
  • Actively solves problems wherever possible.
  • Works harmoniously with co-workers, supervisors, and students.
  • Greets and serves customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Provides suggestions and input to supervisor/chef.
  • Cleans work stations and other areas of kitchen and FOH.
  • Cleans cooking utensils, tables, grills, ovens, hoods, fryers, and other equipment used in food preparation and storage.
  • Takes out trash, breaks down and takes out cardboard boxes.
  • Prevents cross contamination of food products.
  • Follows correct food storage and safety guidelines.
  • Ensures allergy procedures are followed and no cross contacts of food items.
  • Keep organized and clean as you go.
  • Ensures foods are properly cooled, and reheated.
  • Follows menus, recipes, prep lists, cleaning lists, and other duties that make the kitchen run efficiently.
  • Adaptable to a pivoting environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of job content, practices and procedures.
  • Skills necessary to fully perform all aspects of the job.
  • Skills in operating various institutional/commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers and coworkers.
  • Ability to multi-task under stressful situations.
  • Able to take feedback.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability
    to transport and/or lift a maximum of 50 lbs.
