About the role We're looking for an entry-level technician to help prepare, install, and support credit card readers at customer locations. You'll follow step-by-step checklists to stage devices, assist with on-site installs, run simple test transactions, and document your work. Training is provided. This is a great role for recent grads, career changers, or anyone with basic tech skills and a strong customer service mindset. What you'll do * Unbox, label, and inventory devices and accessories in the staging area * Follow a checklist to apply settings, connect devices to network (Ethernet or WiFi), and update firmware when needed * Prepare mounting hardware and cables for site installs * Assist with on-site installations: place and secure devices, connect to POS, and tidy cabling * Run basic test transactions using a test card (chip, contactless, swipe) to confirm everything works * Document serial numbers, locations, and installation notes in the ticketing/asset system * Provide friendly, patient support to store staff during go-live and escalate issues when needed * Follow safety, security, and handling procedures for payment devices and accessories * Coordinate with the lead technician or project manager on schedule, status, and next steps * Support device swap-outs, simple troubleshooting, and returns (RMA) as directed What you bring * Willingness to learn and follow clear checklists and instructions * Basic tech skills and comfort with cables, small tools, and setting up hardware * Simple networking knowledge is helpful (what an IP address is, connecting to WiFi, plugging into a switch) * Good communication and customer service; calm and professional on-site * Attention to detail for labeling, inventory, and documentation * Ability to lift/move equipment (about 25-40 lbs) and stand for periods during installs * Driver's license and reliable transportation if travel between sites is required * Flexibility for occasional evening or weekend work during cutovers Nice to have (not required) * Any exposure to POS systems or payment terminals (Ingenico, Verifone, PAX, Clover, Square) * CompTIA A+ or Network+ (or working toward it) * Experience using a ticketing or asset tool (ServiceNow, Jira, or similar) * Retail, restaurant, or hospitality experience Training and growth * On-the-job training on devices, setup steps, and testing procedures * Clear checklists, job aids, and mentoring from senior technicians * Growth path to Deployment Specialist, Field Technician, or POS Support roles Work environment and logistics * Mix of warehouse/lab staging and on-site installations * Standard business hours with planned after-hours cutovers as needed * Local or regional travel (add estimated %) Success measures * On-time arrival and completion of scheduled installs * Checklists followed with accurate documentation * First-time pass on test transactions * Positive feedback from store staff and project leads Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Evanston, IL.
