Work Type: Seasonal

Nature of Work: This position involves assisting a city department with wide range of projects, and is designed to be both educational and practical. The Intern will learn how to take skills they have acquired in school related to a particular area of interest and apply them in a professional setting. As a Visit Omaha, incumbents may be working in the Visitor Center or at partner events, welcoming visitors to the City and providing information on what to see and do while visiting Omaha. The ideal candidate should enjoy interacting with people and have excellent customer service.

Education and Experience: (The knowledge, skills, and abilities above may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience.)

High School graduation or equivalent

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate a computer or other technology using standard or customized computer or systems software applications appropriate to the assigned tasks.
  • Ability to meet the department's qualifications to perform the assigned duties
  • Ability to understand written or oral instructions
  • Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with other city employees and the public
  • Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer and electronics device technology and software
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work time to keep projects moving according to time lines and be completed by preset deadlines
  • Ability to reach, walk, or sit from 51 to 75% of the time; to stand from 26 to 50% of the time; and to climb, balance, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, push, pull, lift, and type up to 25% of the time
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, to use up to ten (10) pounds of force to move objects up to 33% of the time, and to use lesser amounts of force to move objects from 34 to 100% of the time

  • Learns duties as assigned by a supervisor to expand ones knowledge in the field of interest and performs those duties once learned
  • Maintains regular job attendance in accordance with a schedule established for the position by the supervisor
  • Performs other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification

Special Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree or completed coursework in Hospitality Management, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.

Must be able to work varied times, including weekends and holidays.

Pay Range: Depends on Experience
