OVERVIEW

Merrick is seeking an experienced Welding Technical Specialist to join the Nuclear Services & Technology (NST) Business Unit in our Greenwood Village, CO office. This specialist will support our engineering group for nuclear gloveboxes, confinement systems, and custom fabricated equipment. The role requires advanced knowledge of stainless steel welding, weld procedure understanding and code compliant execution for confinement and nuclear applications.

This is a hybrid position with a salary range of $153,500 to $198,700 depending on experience.


WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Review and provide guidance on welding procedures (WPS/PQR), welding specifications, and welder qualifications.
  • Review and have high level of understanding of weld inspections and examinations including PT, UT, and RT.
  • Provide technical guidance on welding design, material selection, fabrication methods, and code compliance.
  • Support glovebox and nuclear confinement equipment fabrication, testing, and weld troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to ensure weld requirements and designs are integrated into drawings and specifications.
  • Support supplier oversight, shop visits, and quality verification.
  • Follow NQA1 compliant QA/QC procedures for nuclear fabrication work.
  • Assist in developing project documentation and technical reports.
  • Provide advanced expertise in GMAW, SMAW, GTAW (including Tip Tig), FCAW, and other welding processes for technical guidance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree in a welding related technical field.
  • 18+ years relevant welding experience.
  • Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
  • Demonstrated expertise and understanding of stainless steel welding for gloveboxes or nuclear confinement.
  • Knowledge of PT, UT, and RT weld examinations.
  • Knowledge of ASME, AWS, and DOE/NRC welding requirements.
  • U.S. Citizenship (required for client projects).
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working under NQA1 quality programs.
  • Experience in nuclear fabrication environments.
  • Familiarity with glovebox and hotcell fabrication processes.
