Job Summary
"Depending upon the qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at a higher level within the job hierarchy." This Engineer position provides mechanical engineering leadership responsible for the health, safety, reliability, and longterm performance of critical mechanical equipment and systems at our coalfired generating station, Crystal River North. The role provides engineering stewardship across Units 4 and 5 boilers and pressure parts, steam turbines, balanceofplant systems, fuel handling, rotating equipment, and auxiliary plant infrastructure-assets that are essential to safe, reliable, and efficient power generation for our customers. This position leads troubleshooting, outage planning, equipment inspections and repairs, and technical work packages, while driving longterm strategies that reduce risk and improve reliability. This engineer position partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, EHS, and enterprise engineering to ensure decisions are technically sound, riskinformed, within design basis, and aligned with the station's operational priorities while maintaining strong configuration and compliance standards to deliver energy safely, efficiently, and consistently to the communities we serve. The Engineer III position is the advanced level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer III position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with limited supervision. An Engineer III is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer III effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressively complex and varied. The Senior Engineer manages work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. The Senior Engineer is expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. Employees in the Senior Engineer position are fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures. The Senior Engineer identifies problems, develops solutions and takes action to resolve.

- Contributes to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities
- Deals with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decision that may affect the work of the team
- Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity
- Conducts engineering and related studies
- Completes routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with increasing ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; increasingly competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems
- Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures, proficient in technical and analytical competencies

- Serve as the mechanical system owner for assigned equipment (e.g., boilers and pressure parts, steam turbines, feedwater systems, pulverizers, fans, conveyors, pumps, cooling tower, air heaters, valves, and balanceofplant).
- Lead mechanical scope development for planned and forced maintenance outages: define work lists, craft specs, engineer work packages, QC hold points, and test/returntoservice criteria.
- Provide onshift engineering support during outages; coordinate vendors, NDE, and specialty contractors; resolve field engineering issues (repairs, rework, weld procedures, fitups).
- Maintain configuration control aligned to design basis and applicable codes/standards.
- Initiate and manage engineering design change packages: define scope, P&ID updates, drawings, material specifications, installation instructions, testing, and turnover documentation.
- Apply and interpret relevant codes/standards (e.g., ASME, API, NBIC, AWS, ANSI, OSHA, NFPA) to ensure compliance and safe operation.
- Lead/coach causal analysis (Root and Apparent Cause/Common Cause/NERC Cause/PIRT/Barrier analysis) for equipment failures (e.g., tube leaks, pulverizer fires/slagging/fouling, bearing failures, pump cavitation, valve passing).
- Establish corrective actions, failure mode causes, acceptance criteria, and verification plans; track to closure and update reliability models and spares strategies.
- Maintain system risk registers (impact and probability criticality, singlepoint vulnerabilities, defenseindepth barriers) and propose mitigations and capital/expense strategies.
- Prepare concise, leadershipready status updates: emergent issues, actions taken, KPIs (forced outage rate, reliability, heatrate impacts), and upcoming risks/opportunities.
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, EHS, and Supply Chain to prioritize work and optimize plant performance.
