Job Description

Performs a variety of diversified and complex laboratory tests. Processes various blood samples in accordance with the Blood Bank policy and procedure manual. Issues blood components following established guidelines. Provides guidance to Laboratory Technologist and Laboratory Assistants. Participates in and conducts in-service and continuing education.

Job Responsibility




  • * Performs a variety of diversified and complex laboratory tests.

    • Sets up apparatus, instruments and supplies for laboratory procedures.
    • Performs basic troubleshooting and preventative maintenance activities for laboratory instruments.
    • Employs standard procedures and techniques to conduct tests, maintains standards of quality control, and investigates out-of-control results, as required.
    • Observes and evaluates test results, and records necessary data on laboratory reports and notifies supervisory staff in time related to problems.
    • Prioritizes and processes blood samples and performs various Blood Bank functions as elaborated in Blood Bank Policy and Procedure manual. Issues blood components on timely basis following established guidelines

  • * Provides guidance and direction to Lab Technologists and Medical Lab Assistants.
  • * Follows up on problem or emergency cases, blood or O.R schedules, and coordinates smooth workflow.
  • * Prepares and tests specimens for examination and reports results. Reports abnormal results and problems to Manager.
  • * Participates in and conducts in-service and continuing education.
  • * Maintains records and ensures quality control processes are completed per department policy and procedures.
  • * Responsible for the operation and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment, orders blood products, as necessary.
  • * Maintains the laboratory area in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Job Qualification




  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related degree, required.
  • Licensed by New York State Education Department (NYSED) as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (or Cytotechnologist, as appropriate to area of assignment).
  • Minimum of six (6) years pertinent clinical laboratory experience, required.
  • Work Schedule: Friday, Saturday, Sunday Evenings
