Responsibilities

(This role has a hybrid schedule with 3 days in office and 2 days flex-remote)

The UHS Corporate Legal Department is hiring a Paralegal - Litigation supporting a broad range of litigation functions for Universal Health Services and its subsidiary facilities.

  • Manage the Subpoena SharePoint site, including maintaining resources, templates, and guidance for facility users to promote consistent, compliant responses

  • Receive, review, and process legal requests served on facilities; prepare and transmit timely responses, including appropriate objections and protective measures as needed

  • Train facility Risk Management and Health Information Management personnel on subpoena and records response protocols, ensuring adherence to legal, regulatory, and privacy requirements

  • Support discovery across matters, including document identification, collection, and review; coordinate with outside counsel to ensure completeness, accuracy, and defensibility

  • Receive and process wage garnishments, ensuring timely communication and proper documentation in accordance with governing requirements

  • Monitor and process bankruptcy notices and filings, track deadlines, and escalate issues to counsel to protect the company's rights

  • Open new matters in Legal Tracker for the Litigation team; maintain accurate matter data, billing fields, and documentation

  • Lead reporting for the Litigation team, including subpoena tracking, litigation portfolio metrics, and periodic key performance indicator reports for leadership

  • Support managed care litigation, including document collection and organization to facilitate matter initiation and case strategy


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with 3 - 5 years' Paralegal experience, healthcare industry preferred.

  • Knowledge of litigation processes and procedures with specific background dealing with subpoenas (civil and criminal)
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, Word, Powerpoint and ability to learn and utilize other web-based programs and databases, including Legal Tracker, Netdocs

  • Strong ability to work independently, take initiative and work well with others

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and multi-tasking skills

  • Paralegal Certification is preferred but not required
