Department: IT AS ADO Peoplesoft
Salary/Grade: ITS/79

Target hiring range for this position will be between 80,297 - $95,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data

Job Summary:

Develops, codes, tests, and debugs new software or enhancements to existing software. Typically works with senior staff but may coordinate smaller or less complex projects independently. Designs and implements basic technical solutions ensuring that business needs and requirements are met. Performs system integration tasks. Provides estimation for assigned tasks

Specific Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

  • Participates in the development of new goals and strategies based on interactions with primary user.
  • Develops plans for software deployment on heterogeneous systems.
  • Collaborates with user to develop workflow and best practices.
  • Partners with user in designing features for technology

Administration

  • Responds to customer inquiries via phone, online, in-person, etc.
  • Creates and maintains code documentation.
  • Evaluates feature/upgrade/change requests and recommends action.
  • Participates in interview process for new hires.
  • Identifies database and software performance issues, and makes adjustments

Development

  • Researches and develops new algorithms and statistical techniques designed for analyzing data based on customer needs.
  • Develops and maintains software infrastructure, via patches, bundles, releases and maintenance packs.
  • Code's software applications adhering to designs supporting internal business requirements or external user.
  • Provide development analytical to support for ongoing and annual operational initiatives for the business community.
  • Completes tier 3 troubleshooting.
  • Designs databases and data structures.
  • Prioritizes tasks within project.
  • Meets with business analyst/stakeholder to determine requirements.
  • Opens tickets with vendors.

Performance

  • Ability to provide production support with some guidance/assistance from other developers (Including off hours).
  • Ability to diagnose (Root cause analysis) and resolve production support tasks within defined SLA windows, following all completion steps with adequate documentation using Incident Management Framework, an internal knowledge base with minimal assistance.
  • Understanding of communication procedure for notifying the user (s) for any data/system availability issues.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as computer science, information technology, or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.

  • 2 years relevant experience required.

  • Ability to use SQL to access and manipulate data stored in a relational database (Oracle, SQL Server)

  • Proficiency with PeopleCode or an object-oriented programming language (Java, etc.)

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and establish timelines to complete assigned tasks.

  • Ability to translate functional requirements into technical design.

  • Ability to communicate and convey technical concepts to non-technical people.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.

  • Strong experience and desire to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA/BS

  • Working experience in higher education information technology

  • Experience working directly with functional analysts and and-users

  • Experience with agile development

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

  • Working knowledge of enterprise applications (PeopleSoft, etc.)
  • Domain knowledge of student administration processes (Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Records, Student Financials, etc.)
  • Ability to develop technical specifications.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations
