Working under general supervision of the Senior Director, Data Engineering, relying on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals, the Principal Data Engineer performs complex data and application integration activities as the highest technical level in support of all corporate information systems across multiple database platforms. Responsibilities include working with business partners on solution design for new or modified database systems as well as integrating database systems. The Principal functions as a lead in technical design and development on large projects by providing direction to other resources and promoting the goal of process improvement. Trains and mentors less experienced developers via formal knowledge transfer workshops and one-on-one sessions. Analyzes functional requirements to design and build technical solutions. Analyzes data and develop logical solutions to problems. Establishes development estimates and meet agreed-upon target dates. Provides on-call support for the database integration solutions; develops long-term solutions to minimize recurring support calls. Identifies opportunities for process improvements and lead efforts to implement solutions. Tracks project hours in time management software. Performs all other duties or special projects as assigned. Advanced working knowledge of SQL Server and/or Oracle Relational Database Systems knowledge as well as cloud data solutions such as Databricks.
