The Systems Engineer III - IDS Lead serves as the senior technical authority for Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) supporting DISA's enterprise sensing environment. This role leads operational sustainment, Tier 2 support, system integration, configuration management, and performance optimization activities to ensure IDS capabilities remain reliable, secure, and mission-ready.


The IDS Lead works closely with Government stakeholders, cybersecurity teams, engineering leadership, and operations personnel to maintain and enhance IDS platforms and ensure effective integration with other enterprise sensing capabilities.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Serve as the technical lead for IDS operations, ensuring availability, stability, and operational effectiveness.
  • Lead advanced Tier 2 troubleshooting and issue resolution, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Monitor IDS performance, alert fidelity, and detection accuracy; tune configurations to reduce false positives and improve detection quality.
  • Support development and maintenance of standard operating procedures, system update procedures, and operational documentation.
  • Coordinate system updates, configuration changes, and tuning activities in alignment with Government change control processes.
  • Support cybersecurity scanning, mitigation, and remediation activities related to IDS components.
  • Collaborate with security and compliance teams to support continuous monitoring, POA&Ms, and operational security requirements.
  • Lead installation, configuration, patching, and maintenance of IDS software, sensors, virtual appliances, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Support integration of IDS with enterprise networks, data pipelines, and related sensing platforms.
  • Maintain and update system documentation, including network diagrams, rack diagrams, cabling/interface diagrams, and inventory records.
  • Support lab and test environments used for IDS validation, troubleshooting, and sustainment activities.
  • Coordinate with configuration management and logistics personnel to ensure accurate tracking of hardware, software, and Government-furnished equipment.
  • Support operational reporting, system updates, and technical documentation required for sustainment activities.
  • Act as the primary IDS technical point of contact for Government stakeholders.
  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to Systems Engineer I/II personnel supporting IDS operations.
  • Coordinate closely with cybersecurity, A&A, and sustainment teams to ensure secure and compliant operations.
  • Participate in technical discussions, reviews, and briefings related to IDS operations and sustainment.



DESIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & CERTIFICATIONS:


  • Active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in systems engineering or integration roles supporting DoD, cybersecurity, or large-scale enterprise environments
  • Demonstrated experience supporting IDS, network security monitoring, packet inspection, or cyber sensing platforms in operational environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Linux systems, virtualization technologies, and enterprise networking concepts.
  • Experience performing Tier 2 operational support and resolving complex system issues.
  • Familiarity with IDS/IPS technologies, packet capture, traffic analysis, and security telemetry highly preferred.
  • Experience supporting cybersecurity compliance activities and operational security requirements.
  • Skilled in developing and maintaining SOPs, system documentation, and technical diagrams.
  • Ability to lead small technical teams, manage priorities, and coordinate across multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief technical information to Government customers.

Pay Range: $115,000 - $125,000 per year
