Job Description

The University of Missouri is seeking an Associate Program Director for the newly-established Johhny Morris Institute of Fisheries, Wetlands, and Aquatics Systems (https://snr.missouri.edu/institute-of-fisheries-wetlands-and-aquatic-systems/). The Johnny Morris Institute (JMI) resides within the School of Natural Resources (SNR; snr.missouri.edu), which is a division of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR; cafnr.missouri.edu).

The JMI was established through a unique public-private partnership and this novel approach reflects the innovation that defines CAFNR's strategic plan the Drive to Distinction.

This position will have substantial impact and will directly support the efficiency and profile of JMI's efforts. The vision for the JMI is to become a hallmark of public-private collaboration that drives applied research and land management decisions to inform priority aquatic issues in Missouri, regionally and nationally. The JMI will be a world class training center for the next generation of students, researchers, land managers and industry leaders with a focus on integrated education. This position facilitates the JMI goals by leading its Chip and Teresa McGeehan Career Pathways Program. The position will develop a nationally recognized undergraduate training program in conjunction with faculty and external partners including collaborative design, implementation, and evaluation.

Specifically, the position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day activities of the Johnny Morris Institute. Ensuring daily operations are in compliance with CAFNR, university, local, state and federal policies and regulations.
  • Develop a nationally recognized undergraduate education program in fisheries, wetlands and aquatic systems. This includes efforts to develop and lead teams of staff, faculty, and external partners to design, execute, and evaluate an immersive experiential undergraduate education program that facilitates work force development; develop regional networks for experiential learning opportunities/ implement evaluation protocols, recruit new students and provide support for incoming students; and annually review and revise the comprehensive program design.
  • Coordinate, promote, and supervise student internships and other experiential learning opportunities. Develop and teach relevant undergraduate seminar courses and workshops, as needed in supper of JMI goals. Engage partners in delivery of experiential learning curricula.
  • Curate public facing educational materials and partner communications: maintain/edit website, newsletters and periodicals; develop podcasts and other social media outlets to promote JMI activities and accomplishments. Partner with CAFNR Marcom group for consistency.
  • Contribute to grant proposals that support JMI priorities.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

8am - 5pm

Occasional weekend events

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates will be evaluated on:

  1. A proven track record in building collaborative partnerships that engage public and private entities in conservation actions.
  2. Demonstrated leadership
  3. Administrative experience.
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $52,915.20-$65,000.00 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
