Tyler Union, a division of McWane, Inc., is the nation's leading manufacturer of Ductile Iron Waterworks Fittings and Appurtenances has an immediate opening for an Assistant Quality Manager for its main manufacturing facility.

Assistant Quality Managerwill help lead and support all quality operations within our ductile iron foundry. This role partners closely with the Quality/ISO Manager and plant leadership to ensure products meet internal, customer, and regulatory quality standards while driving continuous improvement across casting and molding processes. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior quality professional with strong foundry and metallurgical experience who is ready to step into broader leadership responsibility.Proactively promotes The McWane Way principals, values, and behaviors and lives the Compass Culture.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the plant Quality Management System (ISO 9001) and related compliance activities
  • Support internal, customer, and third-party quality audits
  • Lead investigations into non-conformances, customer complaints, and scrap using root cause methodologies (8D, FMEA, SPC)
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on defect reduction, process stability, and "quality at the source"
  • Oversee inspection activities including dimensional, visual, and metallurgical evaluations
  • Support quality oversight of green sand molding, melting, and casting operations
  • Utilize and interpret data from CMMs, spectrometers, hardness testing, and other quality tools
  • Partner with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to implement corrective and preventive actions
  • Support supplier quality activities, including incoming material inspection and vendor corrective actions
  • Help train, coach, and develop quality personnel and hourly production teams
  • Prepare and present quality metrics, trends, and reports to plant leadership
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Materials, or Metallurgical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • 7+ years of quality experience in a foundry or heavy manufacturing environment
  • 2-3 years in a supervisory/mentorship/leadership capacity
  • Strong background in ductile iron casting and green sand molding preferred
  • Solid understanding of metallurgical principles and casting defect analysis
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar quality systems
  • Experience with quality tools such as SPC, FMEA, 8D, and root cause analysis
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body include climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds, balancing, walking, standing, stooping, and handling tools and materials.

The work environment varies from a typical office setting to a plant environment that may be hot, cold, dusty, and noisy. It is a requirement to be in and out of the plant on a regular basis.
