The Woodruff School graduates high caliber mechanical engineers for a demanding profession. Mechanical engineers are the foundation of todays technological world. To do so, we provide enhanced facilities and laboratories to create the best learning environment and we attract outstanding faculty and students. In this period of rapid technological change, the Woodruff School produces mechanical engineers who are vital to our future.

With approximately 3,000 students, 100 faculty members, and 80 staff members, the Woodruff School is one of the largest mechanical engineering programs in the country. We are consistently ranked as one of the top 10 mechanical engineering programs in the U.S. at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and continuously innovate to keep our school at the forefront of engineering education. Our size and resources allow us to offer a diversity of educational and research opportunities that enable us to produce highly sought after engineering professionals.

Job Summary

Provide electrical engineering services in support of either the operation and maintenance of the campus electrical distribution system or the design, construction and operation of electrical equipment, components or systems associated with research efforts within an academic or research unit. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: facilities management and utilities personnel or research management and faculty; co-workers, vendors, suppliers and contractors. This position typically will advise and counsel: management personnel. This position will supervise: NA.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Perform design, installation and testing of electrical/electronic components

Job Duty 2 -
Conduct basic analyses of electrical/electronic system performance

Job Duty 3 -
Develop plans and specifications for electrical systems

Job Duty 4 -
Troubleshoot electrical systems; may involve calibration and oversight of repair work

Job Duty 5 -
Prepare drawings, schematic diagrams and related documentation associated with electrical components and systems

Job Duty 6 -
Develop project budgets, make purchases and monitor expenses. Interact with vendors regarding procurement and delivery issues

Job Duty 7 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
Three to four years of job related experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
This job requires professional level knowledge and skills in the application of electrical engineering principles, processes and practices. Skills in application of regulations, codes and safety practices associated with electrical systems is required as is the use of office and engineering/technical related computer applications, databases and systems.

Salary range: $70,559.00- $81,324.00 annually

This is not a supervisory position.
This position does not have any financial responsibilities.
This position will not be required to drive.
This role is not considered a position of trust.
This position does not require a purchasing card (P-Card).

This position does not require security clearance.

Other Information

This position will interact with students and also perform electrical engineering services in support of the Mechanical Engineering Electronics Lab operations. This includes but is not limited to working in design applications such as the following:

  • Analog/ digital circuit board designs
  • Microcontroller shield boards for controllers similar to the Arduino Uno for example, working on electrical distribution systems, construction and operation of electrical equipment,
  • The design, building and testing of printed circuit boards and/or systems associated with research efforts within the academic unit.
