The Counseling Center assists NC State students experiencing personal, academic or vocational problems. The goal of the Counseling Center is to provide students with professional counseling services and outreach to help them cope with issues that may impede successful academic performance.
The Counseling Center also offers crisis intervention and psychological/psychiatric assessment as well as consultation with others who have concerns about the mental/emotional state of NC State students. Our services are primarily short-term in nature and we make referrals to other helping professionals and community agencies as appropriate. | Essential Job Duties |
Primary purpose of this position is to greet and welcome students to the Counseling Center, discern the services requested by the client, assign proper paperwork and forms, and make appointments or triage assignments accordingly. The Counseling reception area funnels all incoming calls necessitating precise message taking and excellent communication skills.
Primary duties of this position:
- Communicate and explain routine and general information about standard services, processes, and procedures of the Counseling Center using available resources.
- Screen and direct clients and visitors to appropriate source based on the need or question.
- Set up files on clients and input client information into the scheduling and EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems.
- Maintain withdrawal records.
- Demonstrate an understanding and awareness of the services, policies and procedures of the Counseling Center in all duties performed.
- Perform all duties with a high degree of accuracy.

- Perform all other duties and assignments as deemed necessary by Supervisor or Director of the Center.

Qualifications
| Minimum Experience/Education |
High School Diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
| Preferred Qualifications |
- Excellent communication/customer service skills.
- Able to accurately and professionally handle a high volume of telephone calls and direct face-to-face encounters all day long with students in varied emotional states, while retaining a professional demeanor.
- Experience in a College Counseling Center preferred.
- Experience in a medical office setting preferred.
- Good computer skills preferred - will train in specific software programs linked with Center.
