Job Summary

Entry-level lab assistant position that prepares materials needed for MBI diagnostic products as requested by multiple departments. Responsibilities are to make media or buffers; clean and sterilize labware; decontaminate and dispose of biohazard materials; maintain accuracy of inventory and controlling access to chemicals and components in the diagnostic manufacturing locations; receive components to controlled locations and issue materials to the appropriate work order, ensure inventory is accurate and updated in a timely and efficient manner.



Key Duties

Major Duties and Responsibilities

    Perform production area clean-up and sanitization.
  • Assure the proper use of required equipment including but not limited to glassware washers, autoclave, dryers, balances, and fume hoods.
  • Preparation of buffers, media and other laboratory solutions as required.
  • Perform decontamination and disposal of biohazard waste.
  • Maintain complete, thorough, and up-to-date records and documentation.
  • Understand and apply current SOPs, GMPs, QSRs.
  • Adhere to safety requirements and report potential safety hazards or quality issues.
  • Weigh and transfer components to specified personnel.
  • Monitor and requisition of raw materials and supplies required to meet production schedules.
  • Conduct cycle counts on an as needed basis.
  • Assure the proper use, cleaning, sanitization, maintenance, validation, calibration and certification of required equipment as appropriate.
  • Ensure transactions are completed in a timely manner using INFOR / ERP software.
  • Recognize, evaluate, recommend, and implement (with approval) ways to improve procedures and products.
  • Work required, sometimes atypical, hours to meet production needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Duties/Physical Requirements

  • Aseptic technique, general laboratory techniques, and Metric system knowledge preferred.
  • Must have basic computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Must have basic math skills and be able to perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Comply with all OSHA and Quality system requirements.
  • Excellent documentation skills as required by cGMPs for production procedures (accurate, timely, complete).
  • Ability to read, understand and follow all company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidelines.
  • Must be a self-starter, detail-oriented, organized, have the ability to meet strict deadlines and able to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting with peers in a cross-functional setting.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, troubleshooting and analyzing skills.
  • Ability to read and understand Bill of Materials.
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance and punctuality requirements.
  • Must be able to work additional hours outside the normal workday (including evenings and weekends to support production efforts as needed).
  • Ability to walk up and down several flights of stairs throughout the workday in a multi-location facility.
  • Ability to lift on a daily basis up to 20 lbs. of supplies or finished product.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (lab coat, safety glasses/face shields, hair net, latex or nitrile gloves, respirator, etc. when needed).
  • Willing to work with hazardous chemicals and biologicals with proper protective equipment.
  • Must be able to adhere to applicable bio-safety practices.
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time, stoop, reach, push and pull carts throughout the course of the work shift.


Qualifications

Minimum Education or Equivalent Experience Required/Preferred:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Experience in an FDA-regulated manufacturing or laboratory environment is desired.

Competencies required or preferred:

  • Basic math skills required.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Aseptic technique preferred.
