JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:

Job Summary

The Electrician is responsible for maintaining and servicing the electrical infrastructure at Northcentral Technical College and its eight off-site campuses. This includes installing, repairing, and modifying electrical systems, overseeing construction projects, designing layouts, and supervising electrical contractors to ensure compliance with codes. The role also involves collaborating with other trades and ensuring lighting and power installations meet project requirements.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.

Electrical Installation & Construction

  • Design, calculate, and install new electrical services, including panels, grounding grids, conduit, wire, transformers, generators, and other electrical devices to code.

  • Install phone, CAT5, data cables, camera systems, and control wiring for HVAC and fire systems.

Troubleshooting & Repairs

  • Diagnose and repair equipment issues using tools such as multimeters, underground utility locators, phase rotation meters, infrared cameras, power data loggers, and amp meters.

  • Identify faulty equipment, procure replacement quotes, and install new equipment while ensuring code compliance.

  • Order necessary parts after verifying the problem and complete repairs.

Project Management & Contractor Oversight

  • Design lighting and electrical layouts, documenting all relevant materials.

  • Order necessary parts and supplies for electrical projects.

  • Direct outside electrical contractors for project work, including procuring quotes.

  • Ensure projects are completed correctly and in compliance with codes.

Emergency Preparedness & System Monitoring

  • Ensure all fire alarm and clock systems (Simplex and Primex OneVue) are fully operational for emergency situations.

  • Verify all monitoring systems are functioning properly to prevent disruptions.

Minimum Qualifications Required

In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

Education:Associate's Degree (or Equivalent)

Associates degree or completion of an Electrician Apprenticeship Program - Required

Certified Wisconsin Masters Electrician License - Required

Experience:5 Years

Additional Experience Information:

Electrical contractor in a commercial and/or industrial environment preferred.

Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret complex documents; present topics to internal and external individuals of all levels.

Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to critically think and solve problems involving a variety of concrete variables with limited standardization; interpret written, oral and diagrammed instructions.

Technical Skills:

Ability to perform complex operations in a variety of job-specific systems, understand functionality to apply advanced functions, manage/customize and create calculations with data.

Customer Service Skills:

Ability to actively listen, discern key information, and respond professionally; ask follow up or clarifying questions to diffuse escalated situations and offer appropriate problem resolution when necessary.

Other Requirements

A valid Wisconsin driver's license is required, along with the ability to pass NTC's motor vehicle record background check.
