Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Student Counselor for the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Education, the Student Services Counselor provides academic advising and student services support to the students in undergraduate programs at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy. The Bloustein School's undergraduate programs include more than 750 majors, minors, and direct-admit degree students. Working with undergraduate student services colleagues, the Student Counselor develops, implements, and evaluates program procedures and services to meet the needs of students in the following areas: academic, student life and activities, career development, and/or special populations. The counselor is one of four staff responsible for advisement and guidance of students through the life-cycle of their undergraduate program.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Provides guidance to prospective students.
- Provides academic, personal, and career advisement and advice.
- Provides guidance and information for new degree programs as they develop.
- Develops special projects, activities, and content for electronic communication and recruitment publications.
- Provides resolutions to an assortment of academic and administrative problems of moderately complex scope and serves as a liaison to university departments and offices.
- Employs judgment within defined practices and procedures and works independently within broadly defined work objectives.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience, preferably in student services/academic advising in higher education.

| Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Understanding an academic environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of word processing, database software, Microsoft Access and Excel, Internet and Email.

- Student academic advisement and potential student recruitment experience.
- Experience in an undergraduate student environment.
- Previous experience either in student advising and administration (peer advising is also appropriate).
- Knowledge of the fields of planning, public policy, public health, and health administration.

Immunization Requirements
Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
