Float Physician Assistant or Float Nurse Practitioner

POSITION SUMMARY

The Physician Assistant provides outpatient care under the supervision of physicians consistent with relevant GHC-SCW policies and procedures and limited to the role of a physician assistant as defined by the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. The Physician Assistant functions as an independent healthcare provider with an advanced degree of knowledge, skill and expertise in history taking, physical exam, treatment and clinical care management of members. The Nurse Practitioner provides patient education, assessment and treatment to members. The Nurse Practitioner works collaboratively with Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin's physicians to assist in providing care and treatment for members. The position works under the general direction, guidance, and supervision of the Clinic Medical Director, with additional accountabilities to the collaborating physicians, and the Senior Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer.

JOB SPECIFIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Physician Assistant:
1. Bachelor of Science degree in an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
2. Physician Assistant Certification by the State of Wisconsin under the rules of the Medical Examining Board required.
3. Current (or ability to attain) membership in professional Physician Assistant organization(s) required.

Nurse Practitioner:
1. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing with specialty preparation as a Nurse Practitioner. Certification complementary to practice area is required.
2. Valid State of Wisconsin license to practice as a Registered Nurse and as a Nurse Practitioner required. Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber certification is desirable but not required.

FLOAT:
Prefer primary care practice experience. New graduates are still eligible.

CORE:
6. Possession of or eligibility for a valid Healthcare Provider CPR/AED certificate is required. Employee must obtain certification within four (4) months of employment
7. Knowledge of scientific practice principles, methods and techniques as a basis for quality decision-making and to provide a high level of service required. Ability to adapt standard practices for care of specific cases required. Ability to recognize and identify medical symptoms and problems required. Current knowledge of and maintenance of medical related trends, techniques and certifications required.
8. Ability to read and interpret various medical reports and/or results.
9. Ability to educate members and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care, treatments and follow-up.
10. Excellent verbal, written communication and listening skills both in-person and on the phone required.
11. Excellent assessment skills required. Ability to problem-solve and to prioritize changing patient conditions required. Knowledge of interviewing practices and techniques used in order to gather information.
12. Ability to maintain quality, safety and /or infection control standards.
13. Excellent customer service skills required. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to be culturally sensitive and work with a diverse patient population.
14. Ability to use computers and related software such as Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to use and/or learn electronic medical record systems such as EPIC.
15. Knowledge of medical records and appropriate documentation requirements.
16. Basic understanding or ability to learn about reimbursement/insurance practices for medical care.
17. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality required. Knowledge of HIPAA requirements.
18. Ability to work as member of a team and maintain good working relationships with staff and members required.
19. Good organizational skills in the delivery of clinical care required.
20. Ability to remain calm and be resourceful in emergency situations required. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
21. Ability to climb, stoop, kneel and crouch required. Ability to bend, reach, lift, pull, push and/or carry up to 10 pounds regularly. Ability to continuously stand and transport, and with occasional sitting required.
22. Ability to talk (speak clearly), hear (conversation), see (corrected vision for near and far sight, color vision, and depth perception) on a frequent basis required. Ability to perform fingering and handling with both hands required.
