WhatYou'llDo (Position Description)

The Mental Health Technician provides direct patient care under the supervision of aNurse Manager and Registered Charge Nurse. Primary responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisisinterventionand activities of daily living. MHT's willconductregularsafety checks on patients,assistinfacilitating patientgroups,assistnurses in the admission and discharge process, and support patientgroups orone-on-one. Successful candidatesmustdemonstrate leadership abilities that contribute to a positive work environment,flexibility for reassignment tovarious units/populationsincluding children, adolescents, adults, older adults and dually diagnosed patients, and mustknow andcomply withall confidentiality laws and regulation, e.g., HIPPA.

MHT'sshouldalsodemonstraterespect and understanding of patients, as well asbe able to effectively engage with all levels of stakeholders, including our CEO and CNO, various departments,patientsand their families.

The work is performed ina hospital/inpatient behavioral health setting, therefore, there exists a potential for exposure to environmental hazards and contagious diseases, exposure to crisis/emergency situations, and exposure to all infectious diseases including HIV/TB/Hepatitis, blood and body fluids and needle sticks.

Contributions to Team Success (Job Duties/Responsibilities)

  • Ensure patient and environmental safetyby conducting unitsafetychecksandpatientroundsobservations.
  • Closelymonitorpatients on special observation status; report and record behavioral changes.
  • Provide Registered Nurse with patient information toassist themin daily evaluation and planning of patient care.
  • Assistpatients with ADL's,assistwith meals and escorting patients as needed
  • Perform patient vitals throughout the day and record data
  • Perform search for contraband items; sort and organize patient belongings
  • Ensure patients and environmental safety per monitoring processes, e.g., Unit Safety and Patient Rounds.
  • Under the direction of the licensed professional,assistin provision of care asindicatedin the interdisciplinary treatment/recovery plan.

Qualifications

What We WantToSeeFromYou! (Job Requirements/Preferred Skills)

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate'sDegree preferred; High School Diploma or recognized GEDrequired.
  • Minimum of2 years of experience in addiction or inpatient psychiatric health settingrequired
  • Knowledge of psychiatric group processes, therapeutic relationships processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting and behavior management, crisis management with aggressive behaviors, and CPR trainingpreferred
  • Proficiencyin computer-based skills
  • Knowledge in patient safety preferred
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
