Position Title: CALIBRATION TECHNICIAN

Position Summary: Verify accuracy of and adjust precision devices, such as meters and gauges, testing instruments, clock and watch mechanisms, to ensure operation of device is in accordance with design specifications.

Reports To: Quality Team Leader or Quality Manager
Job Location: Candidate will be responsible for splitting their time each week between the Albany, OR and Tualatin, OR facilities.

Personnel: Not applicable

Accountabilities: Accountable for understanding and following all SOPs and WIs related to job duties while supporting 6S and Lean Manufacturing concepts. Execute quality calibration operations on time and within the length of time estimated for the operation.

Authorities: Determine final disposition of gage repairs with approved subcontractors.

Duties:

  • Responsible for maintaining electronic Gage Management program
  • Observes readings on meters and gauges, and other displays and performance of device or instrument to identify functional defects and determine calibration requirements.
  • Adjusts calibration mechanisms to obtain specified operational performance of device or instrument, using handtools and precision measuring and calibrating instruments and equipment.
  • Applies sealing compound on calibration mechanism to prevent readjustment of settings and loss of calibration.
  • Rejects malfunctioning devices and routes devices to specified department for rework or salvaging of parts.
  • May disassemble instrument or device to determine cause of defective operation and notify supervisory personnel of findings.
  • Perform calibration on all in-house mechanical measuring devices
  • Perform simple gage repairs as needed
  • Generate purchase requests for new gages, repairs and subcontract calibration
  • Review, approve and maintain all subcontract calibration certifications
  • Generate Calibration Procedures for all new gages
  • Issue to and retrieve gages from manufacturing personnel
  • Participate in both internal and customer audits of calibration system
  • Perform self audits of calibration system on a routine basis
  • Maintain charts to measure performance of calibration system
  • Maintain log for customer supplied tooling
  • Responsible for organization and cleanliness of gage lab

Job Qualification Requirements:

Educational Experience - High School diploma or GED required.

Experience - Basic computer skills required. A minimum of five years related work experience in calibrations preferred.

Physical Demands - The employee is required to:

  • stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor
  • exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
  • exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or
  • exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Certification Required -

Visual Acuity - Near acuity and accommodations as required for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts and machinery.

Hearing Ability - Accommodations as required to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action and communicate with internal and external customers.

Working Conditions - The employee is subject to:

  • high noise levels from operating machines
  • physical hazards from moving equipment and production components
  • breathing fumes, dust and mist
  • skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids.
  • welding flash

The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and to perform other job-related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.

Attendance is an essential job function.

Employees will operate in compliance of all recognized standards that Major Tool adheres to (such as AS9100, ISO 9000), including all supporting policies and procedures.
