The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Web Designer for the Department of Communications and Marketing within the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. This position will act as part web designer/part webmaster to build, revitalize, update, maintain and troubleshoot webpages for the Office of Continuing Professional Education's (
OCPE) portfolio of programs. The website is OCPE's main marketing tool to reach potential customers whose enrollments we rely on for revenue generation while meeting the mission of our office to serve the people of New Jersey and beyond.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Manages content, while ensuring it is accurate, well organized and engaging to attract customers to our programs.
- Reviews and implements SEO best practices to enhance OCPE's website visibility while also testing across different browsers and devices to ensure a smooth and user-friendly experience.
- Tracks and reports website performance metrics, such as traffic and user engagement, with suggestions to program staff and Assistant Director for improvement.
- Coordinates regularly with program staff to schedule, write and execute marketing messages, updates, and campaigns via email, social media, internal and external newsletters and the registration unit to ensure timely and accurate posting of program information.
- Cross-trains with marketing colleagues to complete time-sensitive tasks in their absence.
- Completes work under general supervision, within established work parameters, with few direct instructions.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

- A valid driver's license would be required for this position.
- Successful completion of the university's defensive driving course (within six months of hire) is required.

- Proficiency in customer relationship management software, email marketing software, content management software (WordPress preferred), SEO techniques and best practices and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Understanding of web coding (eg. HTML, CSS, JavaScript).

- Four years of relevant experience in a marketing, public relations, or promotional advertising role, with demonstrated competence in website management or design.

| Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- No specific dress code is defined, but this position is expected to dress professionally for meetings and conferences.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes loud office environment with strong customer service skills, anticipating needs while dealing with concurrent deadlines, interruptions and sudden changes in priorities.
