Requisition Number:R156647 Pharmacist, Clinical Specialist - Emergency Medicine (Open) How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:$30,000 Sign-On Bonus $10,000 Relocation Assistance Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital is a Level I trauma center, tertiary/quaternary care facility, and Certified Primary Stroke Center with ~95,000 patient visits annually and over 2,000 trauma activations. Carilion recently opened the Crystal Spring Tower in May 2025, home to an expanded Emergency Department (ED) and Cardiovascular Institute. The ED currently has 125 licensed beds with a dedicated Pediatric ED, 12-bed Critical Care pod, 40-bed Observation unit including geriatric beds, 5 trauma bays, and other dedicated treatment areas. The Emergency Medicine Clinical Specialist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care to adult and pediatric patients in a variety of acuity levels to assure safe and effective drug therapy. They also develop and maintain a clinical practice by participating in bedside rounds and responding to trauma and medical emergencies. This daytime EM specialist will work a modified 7 on/7 off schedule, alternating with a specialist counterpart. Upon hiring for these day/evening positions, a total of 6 ED pharmacists would provide 24-7 coverage with sufficient overlap during daytime hours to allow for ED patient care coverage and longitudinal responsibilities. Activities include collaborating with members of the Emergency Department to develop policies and protocols that provide effective and efficient use of medications, providing consultation for other health care providers, educating patients and other health care providers, and reviewing and processing medication orders. This position would also include relevant committee representation, staff education, and precepting pharmacy students. ED specialists will be directly involved in precepting PGY1 pharmacy residents and PGY2 pharmacy residents in emergency medicine, critical care, infectious diseases, and internal medicine. Qualified candidates must be a graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and must possess a current Virginia pharmacist license or be eligible for licensure. An ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is required and specialized PGY2 residency training in Emergency Medicine or Critical Care is preferred. Applicants must possess good leadership, communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills. Must be able to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision. Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills are required. What We Require: Education: Must be a graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). Licensure, certification, and/or registration: License to practice Pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Virginia required within 90 days of hire. During the first 90 days of employment and the licensure application process, pharmacists without a valid license to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Virginia may not perform duties restricted to a licensed pharmacist until the license is obtained. If the license is not obtained within 90 days of employment, the employee may be subject to separation from Carilion Clinic.
