Location: Kanab, Utah or Remote Hiring Range:This position's hiring range isanticipatedto be $75,000-$81,000, depending on experience, plus great benefits! Interviews will occur weekly until the position is filled. Temporary position until January 31, 2026. Position Summary: The Data Research Specialist plays a supporting role in Best Friends' data quality and governance program. This position focuses on hands-on data research, reconciliation, and collection tasks that ensure the accuracy and completeness of organizational data across multiple systems and platforms. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys detailed, methodical work and wants to contribute to the organization's mission of saving animals' lives through better data. The Data Research Specialist will support ongoing data quality initiatives including SMS data reconciliation across multiple platforms, state-level data file preparation, and website data collection projects. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Support shelter attribute data reconciliation efforts across multiple platforms. Research and document discrepancies at the individual organization level. Flag inconsistencies for review by senior team members. Collaborate with Programs and/or Network teams as needed to gather information and validate findings. Research organizations to document required information in preparation for data collection. Maintain accurate records in Airtable. Identify potential organizations not currently in our database. Reconcile open-source data collection checklist data to ensure accuracy and completeness. Communicate progress, questions, and findings to team members through regular updates. Document processes and procedures to support knowledge sharing within the team. Compile shelter metrics into a standardized template as needed. Management of a shared email inbox as needed. Perform other data collection, research, and quality tasks assigned.
Skills and Experience:
Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy. Proficiency in Airtable or similar database/project management tools, including building complex views and linking records. Strong Microsoft Excel skills with expertise in pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and other advanced functions for data reconciliation and analysis. Ability to follow detailed instructions and established processes consistently. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Comfort working independently on repetitive, detail-oriented tasks for extended periods. Prior experience with Customer Relationship Management systems, such as Blackbaud, preferred. One year minimum experience in a data entry, research, or administrative support role.
