Substitution of Education for Experience: Additional graduate course work in a quantitative discipline may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis up to two years. OR 5 years of experience as a data professional including financial, scientific, environmental, or other business-related areas. OR 3 years of increasingly responsible professional data management and data analytics experience with the State of Tennessee and demonstration of the skills required to excel in this role. Overview Under general supervision, this classification identifies an agency's needs in terms of data storage, querying, analysis, and presentation, then apply departmental or agency data quality requirements (storage locations, metadata, software compatibility, etc.) to ensure the needs of the customer are met in accordance with appropriate policies and regulations. A data steward tracks the movement and storage of data inside an organization and ensures data quality assurance. The Data Steward acts as a subject matter expert for the data needs of a division and acts as a liaison or project manager during projects and interactions between various internal and external stakeholders. Staff in this role also may provide consultation, mentoring, and training opportunities to staff across the division. Responsibilities 1. Recognize and manage data as a strategic and valuable enterprise asset by assisting in their Agency's data management and cataloging efforts. Define, monitor, and manage data quality within the assigned program area or domain through use of Agency supported data cataloging programs (Alation) or other software.
